Joe 'Bud' Vaughan, Jr. Obituary

Joe Vaughan , Jr, was born on Sunday, April 12, 1936, in Northampton County, North Carolina to the parentage of the late Joe Vaughan, Sr. and Elva Jordan Vaughan.

‘Bud’ or ‘Uncle Bud’, as he was affectionately called by his relatives and friends, was educated in the Northampton County School System.   At an early age, he accepted Christ and united in Christian fellowship with the Piney Grove Baptist Church of Jackson, North Carolina.  It was at Piney Grove, his spiritual gifts were nurtured and his love for God strengthened.  He served  in the Usher’s Ministry, the Male Chorus and was very instrumental in the expansion of the church’s property, which included the paving of the existing parking lot.  ‘Bud’ remained faithful to his church, until his health prevented him from doing so.

After  high school, ‘Bud’ entered into the workforce.   For many years, he was employed with the Superior Ginning Company, of Seaboard, North Carolina.  He later retired, as a truck driver, from Glover Construction Company of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina.  ‘Bud’ was a long standing member of the Jackson Square Masonic Lodge No. 700, where he faithfully ensured that the lodge was always warm and comfortable for their meetings.

During his youth, ‘Bud’ would often be seen sporting his Harley Davidson motorcycle around the countryside, never hesitating to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.   As ‘Bud’ aged, he found a love for watching Westerns, while drinking a cold Pepsi.  Being in the presence of his family and friends brought him great joy.

On Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11:02 PM, ‘Bud’ peacefully departed this earthly life, while in the care of Northampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Jackson, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one brother, Herbert Vaughan and  his sisters, Adell Long, Nettie Scale, Ivey Fisher, Sarah Billups, Maggie Hicks and Virdia Battle.

Those left not to mourn his passing, but to rejoice and thank God for a life well-lived:  his children, Denise Pratt (Vernon) and Jonte' Harris (Catherine) both  of Durham, North Carolina, Sheila Long of Margarettsville, North Carolina and Reggie Barber of (Mary) of Garysburg, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Joseph Pratt of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dewanda Long, Shamekia Long, Dalveion Mason and Erica (Jimmy) Ray all of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brittany (Ronnie) Whiteside of Clayton, North Carolina and  Antoinne (Casey) Pratt of Durham, north Carolina ; twelve great-grandchildren two brothers, Calvin 'Cal' Vaughan of Margarettsville, North Carolina and Eddie ‘Ed’ Vaughan (Iona) of Norfolk, Virginia; sister-in-law, Norma Vaughan of Portsmouth, Virginia a host of loving nieces, nephews relatives and friends; including Diane Motley Mann of Jackson, North Carolina, Rudolph ‘Duke’ Boone and Aussie Mac Broadnax both of Seaboard, North Carolina and caretaker, Eunice Peterson of Jackson, North Carolina.
