John Williams, a man of great integrity, love, and strength, was born on December 2nd, 1948, in Rich Square, North Carolina, to the late John and Janet Williams. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend whose legacy will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
John was the beloved husband of Mary Frances Williams, with whom he shared a life full of love, faith, and devotion. As a dedicated father, he took great pride in his daughter, Lakeshia Morgan, and her family. His legacy of kindness, unwavering support, and commitment to those he loved leaves an indelible mark on their hearts. John, alongside his wife, was a proud and active member of Roanoke Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where his faith guided his daily life.
In his professional life, John began as a Lead Foreman in the construction industry. He was known for his work ethic, dependability, and honesty. Driving his own van, he transported his crew to and from the job site, building not only strong work relationships but lasting friendships. His kindness, generosity, and loyalty left an enduring impact on his colleagues that continued long after their professional lives crossed paths.
Fatherhood is sometimes built on love not blood. During his lifetime John was the foster father to nine children. John provided that same dedication and love of family to all these children. Stepping in where their natural fathers had fallen short, providing love, safety and a lifetime of understanding and care.
John was a man of few words but immense conviction. He had a quiet strength that radiated through his actions, his honesty, and his love for those he cared for. He spoke the truth, always, and never hesitated to share his thoughts, whether it elicited a smile or a sharp “ouch.” He was the epitome of love wrapped in truth, always offering guidance, even when it came with a stern word, because it was always done out of love and care.
Despite the challenges life presented, John never allowed his blindness to hinder him. He lived independently, never using his condition as a crutch. He continued to cook, clean, and navigate life with the same determination and tenacity that defined him. His zest for life remained strong—enjoying delicious meals, soulful blues music, and quiet moments of conversation with his wife and friends from his favorite chair or the comfort of his porch.
John was predeceased by five siblings, three sisters-in-law, and three brothersin-law. However, his memory lives on in the hearts of those who survive him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Mary Frances Williams, of the home; his devoted daughter, Lakeshia Morgan, and son-in-law, Myron Morgan, of Fort Washington, Maryland; his sister, Tamica Williams-Pitman, of Rich Square, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Donna Chambers of Garysburg, North Carolina, and Vivian Smith of Fair Bluff, North Carolina; two brothers-in-law, Charlie Chambers of Garysburg, North Carolina, and Robert Domneys of Baltimore, Maryland. He is also survived by a special niece, Kinesha Chambers, his “Big Mama,” and his special nephew, Marquice “Bogga” Williams. Additionally, he leaves behind his foster daughter, Kim Pernell, and her two foster children, Kanijha and Kimarjan. John is also survived by two aunts, Janie Grant of Jackson, North Carolina, and Irene Williams of Scotland Neck, North Carolina, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold his memory dear.
The family would like to extend a special acknowledgement to Deacon John William, a true and steadfast friend who shared not only a name with John but a bond of brotherhood that was a source of strength and comfort.
