John Ivey Deloatch

With heartfelt sorrow and loving remembrance, we celebrate the life of John Ivey Deloatch, affectionately known as “John D,” who was born on Sunday, February 13th, 1955, in Jackson, North Carolina, to the late Dorothy Deloatch-Quarles and John Jr. Boone.

John began his early education at Eastside Elementary School before relocating to Brooklyn, New York, where he continued his studies at Public School 25.

A dedicated and hardworking man, John devoted many years of service to Montgomery Ward until its closing, and later to Eagle Lightning Company. Continuing his strong work ethic and leadership, he joined Maggie Bus Transportation, where he steadily rose into a leadership position. At the time of his passing, John faithfully served as an Executive Board Member Delegate for ATU 1181 Para Transit Union.

On Monday, April 27th, 2026, John peacefully transitioned from labor to eternal rest at Flushing Rehabilitation Center in Flushing, New York.

John leaves to cherish his precious memories his beloved children: Shakeema Deloatch and Eric Johnson of Brooklyn, New York; Nakia Fox of South Carolina; and John Steven Deloatch of Boston, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren: David Chisolm, Arianna Deloatch, Alexander Johnson, Christen Amir Belle, and Cordell Moore.

He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Velma R. Deloatch of Brooklyn, New York; Darphene Deloatch-Brown (Marvin) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Napoleon Micah Deloatch Peele of Glen Burnie, Maryland.

John also leaves behind his devoted aunts: Florine Deloatch of Rich Square, North Carolina; Rebecca Diggs of Abingdon, Maryland; and Melba Flythe of Conway, North Carolina.

He shared a special bond with his nephew, Torrell Ross, and leaves cherished memories with his nieces: Danielle Harrington-Opie (Tiffany), Dominique Dismuke (Willie), Ciarra Brown-Russell (Damir), and Netta Cross. He is further survived by his close friend, Genevieve Evans, along with six great-nephews, six great-nieces, and a host of loving relatives and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, two brothers, nine aunts, and four uncles, all of whom now welcome him into eternal peace.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that John’s journey does not end here. May he rest peacefully in the loving presence of the Lord, reunited with those who went before him in a blessed heavenly reunion.
