Johnnie Lee Sykes, son of the late Eddie and Mary Jane Tucker Sykes, was born on Thursday, May 1, 1952 in Northampton County, North Carolina.
‘Deuce’, as he was fondly called by his loving family and friends, was educated in the public schools of Northampton County. He graduated from Gumberry High School, Class of 1972.
Early in life, ‘Deuce’ accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united in Christian Fellowship with the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church of Seaboard, North Carolina.
As life progressed, ‘Deuce’ met and married Joann Peebles. This union was blessed with two sons, Erick and Rodney.
On Sunday, June 4, 2023; while in the care of Jewish Nursing Home, Longmeadow, Massachusetts, our dear loved one peacefully departed this earthly life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one brother, Edwin Sykes.
If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane we would walk right up to Heaven and bring you back again. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it and only God knows why. Our hearts still ache in sadness and secret tears still flow, what it meant to lose you no one can ever know. We who remain to treasure his love and cherish his memories are: two sons, Erick Sykes of Springfield, Massachusetts and Rodney Sykes of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Corrina Sykes of Los Angeles, California, Rodney Cooke-Sykes and Micah Garrett both of Atlanta, Georgia and Ezra Sykes of Springfield, Massachusetts; his siblings, William Sykes (Jewel) of Springfield, Massachusetts, Betty Towler of White Plains, Maryland, Jane Maye (James) of Springfield, Massachusetts and Wynona Ransome (Joe) of Richmond, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Ernestine Sykes of Seaboard, North Carolina; one uncle, Fred Tucker; one aunt, Ella Jarrett both of Emporia, Virginia; his best friend, James Lee Boone of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephew, relatives and friends.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mr. Sykes' tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
