Jonathan Hester, Sr. Obituary

Love…Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

 ~ 1 Corinthians 13:7

Today, we gather to honor the memory of Jonathan Casey Lamonte Hester, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.  Known affectionately as ‘Monte’ to those who knew him best, he was born in Carteret County, North Carolina, on Friday, April 14th, 1972, to Valerie Dawn Hester and the late Alvin Roy ‘Ray’ Jones, Sr.

Monte's education journey concluded at the end of the 8th grade after which he embarked on a career that saw him master the trade of masonry through which he started his own masonry business,  Hester's Masonry. His unwavering work ethic and a deep commitment and dedication to his craft were admired by all who knew him, and his contributions to his family and the community were so significant.

As life progressed, He met and married his sweetheart - Roxanne Morris Hester who was and will forever be the love of his life. His generous spirit touched the lives of everyone he met. Mont's life was a testament to his resilience, hard work, and deep love for his family and friends. His legacy is one of love, perseverance, and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life.

Monte was a man of very few words but when he spoke people would listen. He was also a man of his word and a great provider for his family. His affectionate smile and contagious grin would light up a room. When Monte was not working he found joy in tending to his livestock and being an avid hunter.

On Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, Johnathan "Monte" Hester, Sr. answered the Master’s call to eternal rest. As we say farewell, his life will be celebrated, his memory will be cherished, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

He leaves behind cherished memories of love and affection that will remain in our hearts forever. He is survived by his devoted wife, Roxanne Hester; his daughters, Laura and Roxanne Hester; his sons, Gregory Yancey of Morehead City, North Carolina, Marcus Yancey of Virginia, and Jonathan Hester Jr. (Shanice) of Havelock, North Carolina; his mother, Valerie Hester of Morehead City, North Carolina; his brothers, Anthony Hester (Lois) of Gloucester, North Carolina, Alvin Jones Jr. (Sheila) of Havelock, North Carolina, Quincey Jones and Tony Jones of Newport, North Carolina; his sister, Haleigh Jones of Morehead City, North Carolina; and his grandchildren, Alayah, Jonathan, Tabitha, Gianna, Olivianna, Mia, Adalynn, Camdyn, Malikah, Elijah and Malaysia. He is also remembered by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
