Joseph Bass, Sr. Obituary

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven;

A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to break down and a time to build up”

~ Ecclesiastes 31:1-3

A Time to Live:

     On Tuesday, September 25, 1956, Joseph Pete and Eileen Betty Bass brought into the world a baby boy, who they named Joseph Edward Bass. As he grew up, many strong, hard working people were responsible for helping him become the man he was. He was educated by the City of Virginia Beach Public School System. Following school, Joe immediately joined the workforce. As he matured, he became the father of Jennifer, his namesake Joseph, Angela, and Kanchata; and married the love of his life Christine Marie Bass.

     After 38 years of dedicated service, Joe retired from Wonderbread/Hostess IBC.  After which he became employed with Lowes, as a head of maintenance and went on to work at the place he loved, the Town of Garysburg, where he was dubbed the title “Chief Engineer.” Oftentimes you would find him working in his yard; gardening; taking care of his dogs, goats, chicken and pigs, fishing and boating.   Being in the natural environment was what he loved.

      The life of Joseph was centered on his love for his family, humor and the care of others. After moving to North Carolina, he and his wife united in Christian Fellowship with Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Garysburg, where his love for God was strengthened.

A Time for Rest:

     Joseph Edward Bass, Sr. was summoned home to eternal rest and peace on Saturday, October 16, 2021, while in the serenity of his home, surrounded by his loving family.  He slipped into eternal slumber and joined the great cloud of witnesses, along with those who preceded him death: his grandparents, Lilly and Ralph Hepworth, his father, Joseph Pete Bass, and his mother, Eileen Bass Hoyland.

A Time to Remember:
