Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.
Kathy Marie Holt Belcher was born on Friday, January 26th, 1979 in Halifax, North Carolina, to Betty B. Holt and Clifton Smith. From the very beginning, her life was a gift—one filled with purpose, compassion, and quiet strength. On Thursday, April 30th, 2026, she gently answered the Master’s call, passing peacefully in the comfort of her home. As the Scripture reminds us, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).
At an early age, Kathy gave her life to Christ and professed her faith at Diamond Grove Baptist Church in Skippers, Virginia. Her spiritual foundation guided her steps throughout her life, as she sought to walk in love, kindness, and truth. Her journey reflects the words of Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
Kathy received her formal education through the Northampton County Public Schools System. After graduating, she worked faithfully at Cracker Barrel and Hardee’s, demonstrating a strong work ethic until her health began to decline. Yet even in her challenges, her spirit remained resilient and giving.
Kathy was truly a woman after God’s own heart. She embodied the essence of love described in 1 Corinthians 13—patient, kind, and selfless. She had a heart of gold; to know her was to love her. She never met a stranger, and there was nothing she wouldn’t give to help someone in need. Her home was a place of warmth and nourishment—both physically and spiritually. She loved to cook and made sure no one around her went without a meal. As it is written in Hebrews 13:16, “But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”
Kathy was outgoing, bold, and unapologetically herself—speaking her truth with love and conviction. She was strong, compassionate, and unwavering—a true Proverbs 31 woman, clothed in strength and dignity: “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness” (Proverbs 31:26).
Though her earthly journey has ended, her legacy of love, generosity, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. We find comfort in knowing that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18), and that one day we shall see her again.
Those left to cherish her precious memories include her beloved parents, Betty B. Holt and Clifton Smith; her loving children: Kadijah Holt (Malik), Shyheim Walker (Jasmine), Raymond Belcher, Jr. (Te’Liyah); her grandchildren whom she loved and adored: Ka’Veon Pearson, Ty’Asia Conyers, Ja’Lalah Jefferson, Ivy Ana Walker, Tori “Auna” Walker, Shyheim Walker, Jr., Ty’Mir Webb, and Ty’Mon Webb; her siblings: Chester (Ella), Skippers, Virginia; Teen, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; Michelle (Keith), Gaston, North Carolina; Debbie, Gaston, North Carolina; Tony, Sr. (Shelia) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; Russell Buck, Gaston, North Carolina; Clifton of Gaston, North Carolina, Delois Robinson, Garysburg, North Carolina; Jane Alston, Garysburg, North Carolina; James Smith, Skippers, Virginia; aunts: Dozine, Gladys, and Emma all of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina; uncles: Leroy Broady, Allen Broady, and Henry Broady all of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina; special friends: Earl Anderson and Victor Ward; along with a host of family members, bonus children, friends, and all whose lives she touched with her kindness and love.
