Katy Frances Gray, daughter of the late Archie and Maggie Bush, was born on Tuesday, October 22nd, 1935, in Bertie County, North Carolina. She peacefully transitioned from this life on Monday, November 25th, 2024, at the Rich Square Health and Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 89.
Katy was a proud graduate of John B. Bond High School in Lewiston, North Carolina. She devoted her life to caring for others, both as a loving child care provider in her home and as a dedicated home health care worker. Her nurturing spirit touched the lives of countless children and individuals, embodying a selfless love that extended beyond her family to the broader community.
Katy found great joy in the simple yet profound beauties of life, particularly in gardening and working with flowers. She spent hours cultivating her garden, which brought her peace and joy. She delighted in canning fresh foods from her garden, generously sharing them with neighbors and friends. Katy also had a love for cooking and enjoyed watching cooking shows and home gardening programs, always eager to learn and share.
Her life was enriched by her deep and abiding love for her husband, Claude Edward Gray, whom she married in 1962. Their union of 62 years was a testament to their unwavering commitment and love for one another.
Katy leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Claude Edward Gray; her loving daughter, Maggie Francine Gray; and her cherished grandson, Savion Gray. She is also survived by her sister, Maggie Bush, of Aulander, North Carolina; her brother-in-law, Calvin Gray, of Rich Square, North Carolina; her sisters-in-law, Jessica Thom, of Englewood, New Jersey, and Mary Bush, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, including her special friend, Miss Annie Wilkins.
Katy was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Maggie Bush; her brothers, James Lee Bush and Archie Bush; and her sisters, Melva Jean Smallwood and Gladoria Bush.
Katy Frances Gray’s life was a reflection of love, selflessness, and compassion. Her family and friends find solace in knowing she is now at peace and reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
