Larry S. Harris was born on October 21, 1949, in Branchville, Virginia to the late William and Nettie B. Harris. He departed this life on August 19, 2023, after a brief illness, at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.
After receiving education in the Southampton County Public School System, Larry attended basic training in Fort Benning, Georgia. He then moved to Baltimore, Maryland and worked in the construction industry. Larry later relocated to North Carolina and worked for the NC Department of Transportation in Jackson, North Carolina, until his transition to International Paper (formerly known as Union Camp), until his retirement in 1996.
Larry loved gardening; spending time with his family and friends; working on cars and cooking. He was a great cook, known for his pig feet and NC Style BBQ. Larry was very caring and a great provider. He always made sure his family had what they needed. Larry never met a stranger. He always had a sense of humor and a happy disposition up to the day of his passing. To know him was to love him. If he ever told you, “I got you covered like a coat of paint”, he meant it. He would give you the shirt off his back.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his brothers, Thomas ‘LC’ Harris, Coley ‘Shot’ Harris, Charlie Harris and William ‘Mickey’ Harris and sisters, Kate Katherine Harris and Elsie Barksdale.
He leaves behind to cherish his precious memories: his devoted and loving wife of 50 years, Brenda Harris; son, Larry Harris Jr. (Tiffany) of Baltimore, MD; daughters, Nicole Harris of Baltimore, MD, Keisha Kee (Leander), Tomekia Harris and Tiera Harris all of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Nydetra Rogers, Nasheam Rogers, Montavious Robertson, Jordan Kee, Sean Kee, Caden Crowell and Madisyn Bunch; great-grandchildren, Ayden Rogers, Amelia Lloyd and Amiel Lloyd; brother, James C. Harris of Branchville, VA; sisters, Viola Branch of Woodland, NC and Mary West-Montgomery (Bob) of Washington, DC; one brother-in-law, Henry Stephenson of Margaretville, NC; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Brooks of Seaboard, NC; aunt, Katherine Tann-Branch of Franklin, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends, including, long time friends, Bill Ponton, Milton Edwards, Roscoe Ponton, Troy Davis, Sylvia Stephenson, Matthew ‘Buddy’ Claude and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Robinson.
