“To everything there is a season, and to every purpose under the Heaven:
A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant,
and a time to pluck up that which is planted.”
- Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
LAWRENCE S. BROADY, affectionately known as “Mane,” was born on July 12th, 1980, in Emporia, Virginia, to Terri Broady Newsome and the late Lawrence Sylvester Hicks. On Friday, January 17th, 2025, he answered his Master’s call, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories.
Mane graduated from high school and later pursued his passion for cooking by attending Le Cordon Bleu in Atlanta, Georgia. He spent the last nine years of his life in Rocky Mount, where he joyfully raised his five children.
A man who truly loved life and his family, Mane was a devoted father. His love for cooking and gardening, especially growing flowers, was a significant part of his life. His home was a reflection of his passions, where he not only nurtured his plants but also his family with kindness, laughter, and care.
Mane is survived by his beloved children: Taemarion (Tae), Semaj (Tank), Xylia, Quintera Broady, and Ahmir Robinson. He leaves behind his mother and best friend, Terri Newsome, as well as his father-at-heart, Leon Newsome. He is also survived by his cherished grandmother, Delila Hicks, and a host of siblings: Tashanda Estrata (Julio), Shari Lady, Dominique, Brianna, Jasmine, Sataya, Niquel, and Pierre Hicks. His loving uncles include Darrell Broady (Juanita), Randolph Broady (Joy), and Kenyatta Hicks (Keena). Aunts Sharon Ward (Clyde), Renee Blair Pastell, Paula Lasley, and Paula Turner also mourn his loss, as do his special nieces, Ja’meze Ferrara (Robert), Dar’Naja, and Sha’Naiyah Drew.
Mane’s close childhood friends, Huggy and Vernon Lee, will also forever hold him in their hearts.
Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mr. Broady's tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
