And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
~ Colossians 3: 23 - 24
Leroy Mason, son of the late Sheppard Mason, Sr. and Adell Blunt Mason, was born on Monday, October 30, 1933 in Southampton County, Virginia.
Leroy was reared in a Christian home, where not only was the goodness of the Lord taught; it was believed and lived! Early in life, he accepted Christ, was baptized and became a member of the Rising Star Baptist Church, Branchville, where he was a faithful and devoted member for over 80 years. Leroy loved the Lord and he loved his church.
Leroy was educated in the Southampton County School System, attending White Meadows School. He learned very early on the value and principles of hard work. His young adult life was spent working on the farm. He later became gainfully employed with Hancock Peanut Company of Courtland, Virginia and lastly, as a Driver, with the Southampton County Public Schools.
On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, God in His infinite wisdom, called our dear loved one from earthly labor unto eternal rest, while in the care of Bon Secours Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Virginia. In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by: his loving and devoted companion, Gertrude Wood; daughter, Angela Lynette Mason; son, Maurice Wood; sister, Dora Mason Kee and brother, Sheppard 'Bug' Mason, Jr.
Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of: his son, Alonzo Wood of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; nephews, Sheppard Mason, III (Valerie) of Branchville, Virginia, Michael Antonio Mason (Sharon) of Boykins, Virginia, and Rufus Kee, Jr. of Garysburg, North Carolina; nieces, Jacqueline Mason Graves (Terrance) of Chesterfield, Virginia, Teresa Mason Harvey (Tyrone) of Petersburg, Virginia, Clarene Kee of Garysburg, North Carolina and Dorothy Lawrence of Portsmouth, Virginia; nieces-at-heart, Shelia Lewis and Detria Turner of Branchville, Virginia; a host of great-nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
