A Love Story:
On July 28th, 1973, Linda married the love of her life, Carlton Harvey Daye, in Newport News, Virginia. Together, they built a beautiful life and started a family, moving to Conway, North Carolina, where Hwy 158 would never be the same. Their journey together was one of enduring love, marked by trials and triumphs, as they exemplified the meaning of unconditional, lifelong love. Carlton loved Linda deeply and devotedly. Their bond lasted through the years, growing stronger as they reached their 70s, embodying the beauty of friendship and love.
Linda’s passion for helping others led her to a fulfilling career as a Nursing Assistant. She also worked for the Newport News Shipyard, where she began her career in Industrial Textile and Manufacturing, including positions at Kerr Glass and Tylon Fabrics. Later in life, Linda found great joy in serving her community as a school bus driver for the Northampton County School System and as a nursing care assistant. Her selflessness and dedication to others were evident in everything she did. Linda was a natural “people person” who loved to laugh and was always the life of the party. Whether through her comedic spirit or her infectious smile, she made everyone around her feel special and loved.
A lover of music, travel, cooking, and Bingo, Linda was also a talented seamstress. She taught herself to sew at an early age, and her skills grew to the point where she became a master seamstress. This love for sewing was passed down to her daughter, Sherita, and many others, leaving a lasting legacy of creativity and craftsmanship.
Linda will be forever cherished by her four children: Carond Terrell Daye of Conway, North Carolina, Lataina Erica Daye of Petersburg, Virginia, Sherita Arnell Titus-Carter of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Stephen Lamont Titus (Randi) of Newport News, Virginia. She leaves behind nine grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy: Dejah Simone Carter, Essence Z. Blythe, Des’tine L. Daye, Deezira L. Daye, Jahi O. Muhammad Carter, Jafari S. Blythe, Jada Z. Titus-Hobbs (Jayden), Deijion L. Daye, and Ahva Joi Titus. Linda was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.
Linda is survived by three sisters: Mary Ann Porter, Yvonne Ali, and Rosalind Anderson. She will also be dearly missed by her bonus sons from Faison Old Tavern, who affectionately called her “Ma Daye”: Demargus, Rodney, Antoine, Dexter, Chris (deceased), Andre, Lil Cotton, Kanari, Marcus, and Lil Man. She will forever be in the hearts of the Hwy 158 community and special neighbors, the Deloatches and Vaughans.
Linda’s legacy of love and friendship is also cherished by her “sisters of the heart,” including Naomi Foriest (deceased), Beverly Foriest Rougeaux, and Connie Foriest. She leaves behind a beautiful circle of sistergirl friendships, including Michelle Long, Evangeline Mitchell, Ella Peoples, and the late great Frances Mae Powell and Saluda Deloatch.
Linda’s love for her family and friends, her spirit of giving, and her joy for life will never be forgotten. She has left a mark on everyone who knew her, and her memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to be a part of her incredible journey.
Rest in peace, Linda, and know that you are deeply loved and will be missed by all.
