Linda Person Obituary

“Sad is the parting, no one can tell, So sudden on earth the sorrow fell,

The blow was hard, the shock severe; To part with one we love so dear.

Dearer still, as days depart; Our loved one’s memory will forever live within our hearts!”

On Wednesday August 15, 1962 a beautiful bouncing baby girl was born to the late Joe Person and Ora Hawkins-Person in Emporia (Greensville County), Virginia.

At an early age, Linda and her family moved to Newport News, Virginia, where she attended the public schools system. While living in Newport News, she confessed her faith in the Lord, was baptized and she joined the The Glorious Church of Jesus Christ, under the leadership of Bishop John H. Bowser. Linda had a beautiful voice. She was the lead singer of the youth choir and remained a member until her demise.

As life progressed, Linda relocated to North Carolina, where she furthered her education in the Northampton County Public School System and she received her General Educational Development from Halifax Community College, Weldon, North Carolina. Soon afterward, she became employed with the Northampton County School System, rarely missing a day from work.

“Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” (Maya Angelou) Early in life, Linda met and married the love of her life, Edward Lee Person, Sr. The union spanned over 37 years. ‘Baby Girl’, as she was affectionately called by her husband, was a kind, caring and very loving person. She never met a stranger. She was beautiful, both externally and internally. She possessed a warm and beautiful smile; bubbly personality and had a great fashion sense. One of Linda’s greatest traits was the blessing of motherhood. Her two boys were her world. Nothing brought her more joy than caring for children, husband and her household. She lived a private, yet simple life. Linda loved cooking, decorating her home and working in her beautiful flower garden.

On Saturday, January 14, 2023, our dear loved one entered into eternal rest at ECU Health North Hospital of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. God, in His infinite wisdom, dispatched one of His angels to escort Linda to her eternal home, where she now joins: her loving parents Joe and Ora Person; brother, Lynn Person; grandparents, Jesse and Carrie Hawkins; aunt, Hattie Hawkins Ricks; uncles, Andrew Hawkins, James Hawkins, Jesse Hawkins, Tony Person and James Person; niece, LaTashia Ricks Watson and nephew, Philante’ Malik Smith.

“Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart. For as long as there is memory, Linda will live on in our hearts. A gift for such a little while, the loss just seems so wrong. She should not have left before us, It’s with loved ones where she belongs.” Her presence here on this earth will be greatly missed, as Linda has touched the lives of many. We who remain to treasure her love, kindness, devotion, caring and giving spirit are: her husband, Edward Lee Person, Sr. two sons, Edward Lee Person, Jr. and Christon Ja’quez Person, all of Conway, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Paulette Barham of Branchville, Virginia and Diane Person of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two brothers-in-law, Martin Person of Courtland, Virginia and Timothy Person (Diane) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; aunts, Daisy Hawkins Clark and Florence Person both of Emporia, Virginia, Alice M. Person of Branchville, Virginia; a very special aunt, Callie Hawkins Deloatch (Henry) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; uncles, Willie Hawkins, Sr. (Lucy) of Jackson, North Carolina, Junius R. Hawkins of Seaboard, North Carolina and Otis Person of Emporia, Virginia; a host of relatives, co-workers and friends.

Many knew Linda and some may have only met her once or twice. However, her sweet spirit was one to leave a lasting memory.
