Linnie 'LS' Abrom Obituary

She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all!”

~ Proverbs 31: 26 - 29

Linnie Sue Abrom, daughter of the late James ‘Gene’ Deloatch and Ida Worrell Deloatch, began her earthly pilgrimage on Wednesday, September 10, 1924 in Northampton County, North Carolina.

‘LS’, as she was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Northampton County. Being reared in a Christian home, accepted Jesus Christ, early in life, as her personal Savior and became a member of the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Seaboard, North Carolina. It was there that her spiritual gifts were developed and love for God deepened. She was a faithful member of the church, serving in several capacities, until her demise.

On Saturday, September 11, 1954, ‘LS’ was united in Holy Matrimony to Jacob ‘Jake’ Abrom in Emporia, Virginia. This union was blessed with the birth of one son, Thomas James Abrom.

‘LS’ loved people and was known by many for her affection, genuine love and infectious smile that would easily brighten your day. Her smile was also accompanied by a warm and bubbly personality. She possessed grace, strength and tenacity. She was also very strong minded, kind and a giving woman of faith. ‘LS’ loved her family unconditionally and would do anything she could to help anyone she could. Children brought her great joy. Nothing made ‘LS’ more happy than having children around her, which led her to serve as a foster mother to many for over forty seven years.

‘LS’ found great joy in cooking for her family and friends alike. Many palates have been tempted by her tasty dishes and homemade desserts.

To help provide for her family, ‘LS’ worked on the farm and as a domestic engineer. In later years, she was employed as a seamstress, until her retirement and then she became employed with Doll Heaven. Her qualities of hard work, fear of God, respect she had for her husband, love for her children, foresight, encouragement, care for others, concern for the poor and love for her family, all led her to a life of enjoyment, honor and worth.

When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.” On Friday, March 18, 2022, while in the care of Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, North Carolina, ‘LS’ recalled the refrain “It is well, it is well with my soul” and crossed the great divide, exchanging life for eternal rest. Her seeds are well-sown; her service on earth is complete, and she now experiences the victory and triumph of eternal life. She is now reunited with those who have preceded her in death: her parents, beloved husband, ‘Jake’ and siblings, George Gatling, Bertha Mae Lassiter, Mildred Vaughan and Cleveland Barnes.

Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole life through, we will always love and cherish you. Her sweet spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. We who remain with faith and assurance that God will see us through are: a loving daughter, Shantayne Abrom; a protective grandson, Malachi Abrom both of the home; compassionate friends; James and Mattie Moore of Seaboard, North Carolina; a host of adorable nieces, caring nephews and sincere friends.
