Llewellyn Clifton Daye, affectionately known as “Clip” by his beloved family, was born on Sunday, July 7th, 1957, in Ahoskie, North Carolina (Hertford County), to Thomas and Addie Cornelia Foriest Daye. The youngest of eight children, Clip brought joy, laughter, and an unmistakable spark to the lives of all who knew him. After a courageous battle with various health challenges, he peacefully answered the Master’s call to eternal rest on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, while in the loving care of Northampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jackson, North Carolina.
Clip received his early education through the Northampton County School System, completing the eighth grade. Though he faced mental challenges throughout his life, he remained remarkably sharp, resourceful, and full of determination. In 2022, with the loving guidance and explanation of faith from his brothers Ronald and Theodore, Clip gave his life to Christ—a decision that brought his family deep comfort and joy.
Clip was known for his unforgettable personality and unique sense of humor. He had a deep love for what his family fondly referred to as the “4 M’s”: Magazines, Mountain Dew, Money, and Music. Rarely was he seen without a magazine in one hand, a Mountain Dew in the other, a dollar tucked in his pocket, and the soulful sounds of Motown music playing nearby. His love for music—especially Motown—ran deep, and he would often break out into dance, especially during community events like the Valentine’s Dance, where he would light up the floor with his signature move: the “Boogaloo.”
Clip had a sharp tongue and a quick wit. He never hesitated to speak his mind and was known to exclaim “Lord have mercy!” whenever he saw or heard something shocking or exciting. He was also known to charm the ladies with his signature question, “You married?” and would proudly tell others he had been married for ten years and had two children—a boy and a girl—whom we’re still waiting to meet. To know Clip was to love him. His lighthearted spirit, unwavering honesty, and lovable quirks left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Though his employment was brief, Clip was proud to have worked at the zipper factory in Rich Square, North Carolina. He also participated in the Special Olympics, where he showcased his athletic talent by winning first place in the long jump—an achievement he and his family celebrated with great pride.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Thomas and Addie Daye, his brother Leonard Daye, and two nephews, Jeffery Harris and Aubrey Stephenson. Though he is no longer with us, his memory lives on in the hearts of his devoted siblings: Garland Stephenson (Reverend Gloria) of Garysburg, North Carolina; Thurman Daye (Essie Mae) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; Theodore Daye (Sandra) of Como, North Carolina; Reverend Ronald Daye (Annie) of Pendleton, North Carolina; Carlton Daye (Juliette) of Franklin, Virginia; and his cherished sister, Sylvia Tann (Ronald) of Pendleton, North Carolina.
He will also be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Teonaka Daye, Ronderick Daye, Lataina Daye, Sherita Clark, LeVar Mizelle, Shayvonna Woodley, Veronica Harris , Larry Clark, Sam Clark, Kim Clark, Carond Daye and Steve Titus, along with a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. Among those who held a special place in Clip’s life was his dear friend and devoted caretaker, Fitzgerald Dickens, whose kindness and companionship meant the world to him.
Llewellyn “Clip” Daye’s legacy is one of humor, heart, resilience, and love. He taught those around him the value of being authentically yourself and living life with joy—no matter the circumstances. As he often reminded us with a grin, “You are a piece of work!” We love you, Clip, and we will miss you dearly.
