Loistine (Joyner) Ponton

You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide

And though we cannot see you, You are always by our side.

Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same

But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.

Loistine Joyner Ponton was born on May 4th, 1957, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late Ethel Virginia Joyner and Eddie Lee Rogers. She departed this life peacefully on December 15th, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Winterville, North Carolina.

In addition to her loving parents, Loistine was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis (Bill) Ponton; her stepson, Dexter Ponton; three brothers, Earl Joyner, Dwayne Joyner, and Ricky Lundy; and four sisters, Rosa Mae Joyner, Katherine Joyner, Sandra Joyner, and Kathy Lassiter.

Loistine was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. Her life was marked by her vibrant spirit, her dedication to her family, and her hard-working nature. Loistine enjoyed driving school buses, a role she held for over twenty-five years, and driving dump trucks for more than fifteen years. She found joy in dancing, playing cards, and bringing smiles to those around her.

She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters: Latashia (Rodney) Vincent of Boykins, Virginia; Kurtina (Michael) Jacobs of Winterville, North Carolina; Chiquita (Lamaine) Boone of Knightdale, North Carolina; Teknika Ponton of Greenville, North Carolina; and Kamacia Ponton of Margarettsville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her stepson, Terrance Ponton of Greenville, North Carolina, and her goddaughter, Serinity McCollum of Dallas, Texas.

Her legacy continues through her ten beloved grandchildren: Alyshia Hill, De’Pre Peebles Jr., Zaniyah Boone, Zynecia Jacobs, Zay-vi-on Boone, Amya Whitaker, Ameisha Whitaker, Akeem Jacobs, Zakyrie Boone, and Amar Porter; and one cherished great-grandchild, Key’oir McDowell.

Loistine is survived by her brothers Eddie Rogers of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; Lawrence (Essie) Joyner of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; and Stanley (Mary Ann) Joyner of Seaboard, North Carolina. Her sisters include Glenance Joyner and Minester Joyner Thomas (William) of Conway, North Carolina; JoAnn Joyner-Loyd (Gregory) of Irving, Texas; Joangelia Joyner; and Paula Joyner, both of Severn, North Carolina.

Her extended family includes a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her memory dear.

Loistine’s love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
