Louise Newsome Obituary

The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years,

yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

~Psalms 90:10

Louise Taylor Newsome, was born on September 25th, 1928, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late Early and Eula Taylor. From a young age, Louise demonstrated her faith and commitment to God by joining Piney Grove Baptist Church in Jackson, North Carolina.

Louise attended public schools in Northampton County and later married Clarence E. Newsome of Conway, North Carolina. Together, they had three children: Betty Jean, who sadly passed away in childhood, Ethel Newsome Dempsey, and Clarence Randolph Newsome.

In pursuit of greater opportunities, Louise relocated to Washington, D.C., where she joined Israel Baptist Church. She was a dedicated member until her health declined, prompting her to move to Philadelphia to live with her son.

A hardworking and resilient woman, Louise held various jobs to support her family. Encouraged by her loved ones, she returned to school to earn her nursing certificate, a testament to her determination and love for learning. She began her nursing career at Georgetown University Hospital in 1969, where she worked diligently until her retirement.

Louise cherished her family deeply and loved her home, which she kept beautifully furnished and immaculate. She was a gracious host, often welcoming family and friends for gatherings, especially during family reunions. Her home was also a sanctuary for relatives moving north, offering them a place to stay until they could establish themselves.

Louise leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories. She is survived by her daughter, Ethel Newsome Dempsey of Capitol Heights, Maryland, and her daughters, Lachelle Reed and Kim Dempsey, her three grandchildren, and a great-grandchild; her son, Clarence Randolph Newsome, and daughter-in-law, Will Ester Newsome, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his six children: Lamonte, Clarence Jr., Anthony, Divina, Cynthia, and Kimberly; along with his twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Clarence, her daughter Betty Jean, her brothers Louis, Curtis, Bruce, and Ashley, her sisters Geneva Mizell and Dorothy Mae Height, and her son-in-law, Levi Dempsey Jr., whom she held dear to her heart.

A precious light has been extinguished, and while our hearts ache from her absence, we find solace in the beautiful memories she leaves behind. Louise will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.
