Mable Ford Obituary

Remembering Mable...

“To everything there is a season, and to every purpose under the Heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die.

A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted. ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Mable Odessa Ford, daughter of the late Alexander Ford and Lizzie Johnson Ford Edwards, began her journey through life on Sunday, June 24, 1945, in Courtland (Southampton County), Virginia.

Mable completed her formal education in the Job Corps. Life afforded Mable the opportunity to travel a great deal. While living in New York, she worked as a live-in-companion; before moving back to North Carolina. The last few years of her life were spent in Baltimore, Maryland, where she made her home.

Mable was one who loved her family with her heart, and not only nurtured her family, but enriched the lives of many around her. She truly adored her daughter and grandchildren. Spending quality time with them brought her much joy! Mable was very outspoken. She had a mind of her own and meant exactly what she said.

She’s in the sun, the wind, the rain, she’s in the air you breathe with every breath you take. She sings a song of hope and cheer, there’s no more pain, no more fear. You’ll see her in the clouds above, hear her whisper words of love, you’ll be together before long, until then listen for her song. On Friday, November 6, 2020 while in the comfort of her home, Mable peacefully transitioned into heavenly eternal rest. In addition to her parents, Mable was preceded in death by: her step-father, George Edwards, granddaughter, Latoya Butler and thirteen siblings, Nannie Banks, Margie Staten, Mary Ford, Roberta Ford, Lucille Mason, Minnie Williams, Ernestine Hayes, George Ford, Otis Ford, Alonzo Ford, Wallace Edwards, Howard Edwards, Wilson Edwards and June Edwards.

Though her light may eternally descend, this God is our God and he has promised to be our up guide until the very end. Though the pain may be almost too much to bear, God is love and he will walk with us in our deepest despair. We who remain with faith and assurance that God will see us through are: daughter, Janice Dunlap (Phillip); three grandchildren, Nauyya Thomas (Delonte, Sr.), Frances Clark (Jamaine) and Cornelius Murray (Ade); ten great-grandchildren, Jahzara Clark, Aaniah Thomas, Daniel Pinkney, Isaiah Mason, Corde Murray, Cornelius Murray, Cornell Murray, Cory Murray, Emma Murray, Emia Murray and Delonte Thomas, Jr. all of Baltimore, Maryland; three sisters, Virginia Ford of Baltimore, Maryland, Mattie Moore (James) of Seaboard, North Carolina and Linda Marsh (Grady) of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Virgie Branch Ford of Severn, North Carolina; great-aunt, Ethel Overton of Dimona, Israel; special friend, Carol Jean Moody of Seaboard, North Carolina.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
