“For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.
I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”
~ Psalm 84: 10
Mable Washington Harris entered this world on Monday, December 19, 1938, in Jackson (Northampton County), North Carolina, born to the late Benjamin and Mary Lee Barnes Washington.
Mable received her education in the Northampton County Public School System and at an early age, she embraced her faith in Jesus Christ, becoming a member of Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, North Carolina, where she remained devoted until her health declined.
On Tuesday, February 18th, 1958, Mable exchanged vows in Holy Matrimony with the late Collie Lee Harris. She dedicated herself to her role as a homemaker, pouring her love and care into her family.
Mable was a beacon of love and warmth to her family and friends, cherishing every moment spent with them. Her abiding faith sustained her, even as she faced the challenges of life.
On the afternoon of Thursday, April 4th, 2024, while under the care of ECU Health North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Mable peacefully departed this life, her spirit finding solace in the timeless refrain, "It is well with my soul." She has crossed the threshold into eternal rest, her earthly journey complete.
Mable was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Collie; her son, John Washington, and her siblings, Louise Washington, James Washington, Willie Washington, Elizabeth Boyd, Rebecca Washington, Lucille Washington and William Washington. However, her memory lives on in the hearts of her surviving loved ones.
Left to cherish her legacy are: three sons, Coley Harris, Jr. (Evelyn) of Durham, North Carolina, Randy Harris (Evelyn) of Jackson, North Carolina and Michael Harris (Debbie) of Ahoskie, North Carolina; two daughters, Sylvia Harris and Joyce Harris, both of Jackson, North Carolina; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Alee Ponton of Jackson, North Carolina; a host of other relatives and friends.
As we bid farewell to Mable, let us hold onto the precious memories she left behind and take comfort in knowing that she has found eternal peace in the arms of her Savior.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mrs. Harris' tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
