Marco Napoleon Everett

MARCO NAPOLEON EVERETT was born on April 29th, 1938, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late Napoleon Everett and Monester Long Everett. On Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, at ECU Health North Hospital in Halifax County, Marco peacefully entered eternal rest.

Marco was the youngest of seven sons and the last surviving sibling of the Everett family. In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and their spouses: Wilson Earle Everett (Mattie, 2003), Aggest Lee Everett (Delia, 2012), Elmore Everett (1930), Ralph Everett (Bertha, 1994), John Roosevelt Everett (Blanche, 2017), and James Clinton Everett (Golena, 2001); his grandson, Tomlin Thompkin; and his longtime companion, Patricia Gail Stewart.

A lifelong member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Margarettsville, North Carolina, Marco faithfully supported the mission and ministry of his church throughout his life. He was educated in the Northampton County School System and proudly graduated from Gumberry High School.

In 1955, shortly after completing high school, Marco enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country with honor as an Airman Second Class. Following his honorable discharge from McGuire Air Force Base in Burlington County, New Jersey, he relocated to New York City, where he began working at the Montrose Veterans Medical Center in Westchester County.

It was in New York that Marco met and married Brenda Joyce Richardson. Together, they raised four children in the heart of Harlem. Marco was both a dedicated family man and a hardworking entrepreneur. He owned and operated a local candy store and later became a professional chauffeur for many years, serving New York’s elite with dignity and discretion.

After retiring, Marco returned to his hometown of Seaboard, North Carolina. He enjoyed the quiet pleasures of country life—hunting, fishing, watching Westerns, and playing the lottery. Known for his generosity, he continued donating to charities and helping others in need, even as his health declined. He had a deep affection for animals and especially cherished his beloved dog, Blackie.

Marco’s wisdom, humor, and spirited sayings were well known and loved by those closest to him. Some of his memorable phrases included: “You’re getting ahead of me,” “Listen to what I’m telling you and stop trying to get in front of me,” “I’ll get back with you and let you know,” “Wait until I tell you,” and the ever-classic, “I don’t owe not one Chinese quarter to nobody or for nothing on this land.”

As the Patriarch of the Everett Family, Marco remained a pillar of strength, leading with determination and love. Even in his final days, he remained steadfast—”ruling with an iron fist from his bed” as his family fondly recalls—until the Lord called him home.

Cherishing his memory and carrying on his legacy are: Brenda Everett; his children, Cornel David Everett (Nakunda), Marco Napoleon Everett, Jr. (Lillie), Duane Michael Everett (Rachelle), Yevette Marie Everett, Nadine Elizabeth Everett (Mike), Jermaine Hall (Linda), and Marc Anthony Hall; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.

A special expression of gratitude goes to his dear cousins, Earl Long—whom Marco often praised, saying, “Earl is a good man and worth more than his weight in gold”—and Zack Tann, lovingly known as “Zackaty Zack.” Marco Napoleon Everett will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished by all whose lives he touched.
