With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Marquita Denise Harris Johnson, who departed this life, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. Marquita was a devoted wife, a loving family member, and a treasured friend to many. Her warmth, generosity, and spirit touched all who knew her.
Marquita is survived by her devoted husband, Joshua Johnson, who will forever treasure the beautiful moments they shared together. She was the beloved daughter of John Harris Jr. of Roanoke Rapids and the late Brenda Newsome. Marquita was also the cherished granddaughter of the late John Harris Sr. and Elsie Mae Lassiter.
She is lovingly remembered by her dear brothers, Michael Harris of Garysburg and Brandon Harris of Conway, as well as her late brother, Bishop Mo Abraham. Marquita’s aunts—Velma H. Harris, Caroline H. Major (husband Dale), Jacqueline Gray, all of Roanoke Rapids, and Patricia M. Harris and Brenda M. Harris of Margaretville—will miss her deeply. Her uncles, Henry Russell Harris of Margaretville, Willie Harris of Jacksonville, Gregory L. Harris (wife Van) of Conway, and William Newsome (wife Queen) of Roanoke Rapids, along with the late Audrey Newsome and the late Denises, will forever hold her memory close in their hearts.
Marquita was also deeply loved by her in-laws: Gennettia Lopez (late husband Anthony Barnes) of Wendell, Jerome Johnson of Raleigh, Lee Lopez of Clayton, and Ashley Lopez of Wendell. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren, all of whom will forever remember her warmth and generosity.
One of Marquita’s greatest joys in life was her passion for arts and crafts, where her creativity thrived and touched the hearts of many. She also had a deep love for the culinary arts, often finding inspiration by watching the Food Network.
Marquita’s presence brought light and joy to everyone she encountered. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her. As we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that her love and memories will never fade. May she rest in eternal peace.
