Maryland 'Red' Williams Obituary

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.  ~ Revelation 21: 3-4

Maryland Williams, son of the late Howard Williams, Sr. and the late Bettie Lillie Davis was born on Wednesday, August 24, 1932 in Northampton County, North Carolina.

‘Red’, as he was fondly known, was educated in the Northampton County School System. He later relocated to New York, where he lived for 41 years. While there, he worked at a local hospital and steel factory, from which he retired.

Prior to his declining health, ‘Red’ was a very active man. His hobbies included: fishing, bowling, watching baseball games, playing the lottery (Boot, come take me to the store to play my numbers); arts and crafts, where he would build bird houses, storage sheds, swings and bicycles. He also loved to eat - Chinese food was his favorite.

Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what’s to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay… Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey is quicker, For some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, We’ll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord. On Sunday, January 30, 2022, while in the care of Northampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Jackson, North Carolina, our dear loved one, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to a land of peace of rest.

Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole life through, we will always love and cherish you. Treasured memories shall forever remain in the hearts of: his daughter, Rebecca Brenda Modni (Mohammed) of King Mountain, North Carolina; sister, Gladys Williams; caring nephew, James Davis both of Jackson, North Carolina; six grandchildren; fifteen greatgrandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
