Melvin 'Big Melvin' Deloatch Obituary

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” ~ II Timothy 4:7-8

Melvin Deloatch, son of the late Andrew Warren and Ozella J. Deloatch, was born on Wednesday, July 27, 1949 in Northampton County, North Carolina.

‘Big Melvin’, as he was fondly called by his loving family and friends, attended Willis Hare High School of Pendleton, North Carolina. At the age of 15, he became employed with Joe Edwards Farms in Pendleton and proudly worked there for 50 years, until his retirement.

At an early age, ‘Big Melvin’ joined Zoar Missionary Baptist Church. He recently rededicated his life to Christ and renewed his Christian Fellowship.

“Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” (Maya Angelou)  At the age of 15, ‘Big Melvin’ found love when he met Pearlie Mae Williams. This union was blessed with the birth of four children.

‘Big Melvin’ was loved by everyone he came into contact with. He loved to laugh and always had a good joke. He never complained about anything and remained humble. In his spare time, he loved fishing, hunting, riding his bike, watching westerns and dancing. If you turned on the music, you were sure to enjoy him performing the dance he invented, “The Washing Machine”.

Spending quality time with family and friends, brought Melvin much joy. He was a free spirit and marched to the beat of his own drum. When he obtained his driver’s license, he would just joy ride - carrying people around as if he was a taxi driver.

On Monday, April 18, 2022; while in the comfort of his home, Melvin quietly transitioned from this earthly life unto eternal life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his beloved daughter, Barbara Ann Williams, one sister, Gladie Mae Joyner; two brothers, Bernard Deloatch and Claude Deloatch.

Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of: his companion and life partner, Pearlie Mae Williams of Conway, North Carolina; his loving daughter, Brenda Knight (Jimmy) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; two sons, Melvin Williams (Diane) of Pendleton, North Carolina and Milton Williams of Conway, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Lakeria Goode, Sabrina Bottoms both of Conway, North Carolina and Jamarus Knight (Trelenda) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; ten great-grandchildren, Armani Roach, Ariana Roach, Adriaan Roach, Aundriana Roach, Kaniyah Bottoms, Kemaurien Williams, Kaiah Johnson, Jayden Knight, Kayden Knight and Namiyah Knight; seven nieces and nephews whom he reared; a host of cousins and friends.
