Melvin Grant Obituary

Remembering The Life and Legacy of Melvin Augustus Grant.…

“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose,

for all that we love deeply, becomes a part of us.”

Today, we pause to pay tribute to the memory of Melvin Augustus Grant, who was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was one who loved his family with all his heart, and not only nurtured his family, but enriched the lives of many.

On Monday, February 13, 1950, Melvin was born to the late John Luther Grant and Ira Juanita Mayfield Grant in Northampton County, North Carolina. At an early age, he united in Christian fellowship with the Jerusalem Baptist Church of Woodland, North Carolina.

Melvin matriculated through the Northampton County Public School System. After which, he decided that he wanted to become a truck driver. During this time, he worked closely with his loving brother, John T. Grant at Grant Enterprises, for many years. As life progressed, he then became the owner and operator of M.A. Grant Trucking Company and worked in this industry until his retirement in 2016. He never missed an opportunity to give those who would listen advice and knowledge about trucking and entrepreneurship.

Melvin enjoyed the trucking business and loved working on and rebuilding trucks. As a man of many hobbies, he enjoyed going to the race track and took much pride and joining the Free Spirit Riders;  a motorcycle riding club - he would oftentimes speak of the many trips that they would take. Not only did Melvin enjoy working and his favorite pastimes; but he also loved his family dearly.

On Friday, January 22, 2020, our dear loved one peacefully entered into an eternal slumber; while in the care of  Rich Square Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rich Square, North Carolina, as an angel of the Lord was summoned to bring Jessie home.  He now reunites with all his friends and loved ones who have preceded him in death; including: his parents and son Melvin D. Grant.

Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of:  his wife of 40 years, Edrina Grant of the home; daughters, Natausha Grant of Milwaukee, North Carolina and Melorie Grant of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; son, Jonathan Grant of the home; son-at-heart, Charles Delotach of Conway, North Carolina; daughter-at-heart, Carrie Edomnds of Lewiston, North Carolina; grandchildren, R’montie Horton of Seaboard, North Carolina; Fiona Simmons, Shamal Grant and Shamesha Grant all of Greenville, North Carolina, Jarrell Grant, Josiah Grant and O’mari Grant all of Milawaukee, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Ahmarjai Horton of Milwaukee, North Carolina, Zamora Barksdale and Rodney Jay Barksdale, Jr. both of Seaboard, North Carolina, Nyla Janell Brown, Peyton Grant, Parrish Grant and Love Grant all of Greenville, North Carolina; brothers, John T. Grant of Emporia, Virginia, Lloyd Grant (Faye) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina and Aurthor Grant (Symera) of Rich Square, North Carolina;  a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
