“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
~ II Timothy 4: 7-8
On Wednesday, January 25th, 1961, the world was blessed with the arrival of Milton Parker Sr., affectionately known to many as “Redd.” He was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, to Carrie B. Parker Hines and the late Ned Lewis Parker Sr., and was reared in Seaboard, North Carolina, where he developed the foundation of faith, strength, and character that would define his life.
“Redd” proudly served his country in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge for his dedicated service. Gifted with remarkable skill and craftsmanship, he was a talented brick mason, blessed by God with hands capable of building both walls and lasting connections. Throughout his life, Redd wore many hats and carried out each role with purpose and pride.
Known for his uplifting spirit and infectious sense of humor, Redd had a remarkable ability to light up any room he entered. His laughter, quick wit, and joyful energy brought comfort and happiness to all who knew him—his presence was truly good for the soul.
Above all, Redd was a devoted father, partner, and friend. He was the proud and loving father of six children: Dwayne Barnes, Titus Parker, Sharmaine Parker, Michael Parker, Crystal Parker, and Milton Parker Jr. He was also a caring father figure to his two stepchildren, Vivian High and Elliott High. Redd’s love extended across generations as he cherished his role as a grandfather to sixteen grandchildren: JJ, Maddie, Kamiah, Natashia, Chanel, Hailey, Faith, Miracle, Mazi, Margo, Maliq, Kiara, Nya, Jorvina, Ziona, and Arianna.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted mother, Carrie B. Parker Hines; two loving sisters; three brothers; and his faithful life partner, Lorene High, who stood steadfastly by his side through life’s many seasons.
Redd was admired and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered as a man of wisdom, kindness, and strength, whose words often carried comfort and truth. One of his favorite sayings, “Take it one day at a time,” continues to resonate deeply with all who loved him and will remain a lasting reminder of his faith and resilience.
Though his physical presence has departed this earth, Redd’s spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. His laughter, love, and legacy will forever echo in the lives he touched. Gone, but never forgotten — his memory will live on, always and forever.
