Mother Mamie Walden Obituary

"She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all!”

~ Proverbs 31: 26 - 29

Today we pause to pay tribute to the LIFE, LOVE and LEGACY of MOTHER MAMIE IRENE BOONE WALDEN, who was a loving, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.

Mamie graced the earth with her presence on Monday, May 20, 1929. She was born to the parentage of the late Grady W. Boone and Bertha A. Roberts Boone in Northampton County, North Carolina. Mamie soon matured into a sweet and compassionate lady. Her education was obtained through the public schools of Northampton County. Mamie believed in God; the Father Almighty, who created heaven and earth. She possessed strong faith in Christ and did not waiver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, always acknowledging his presence. Having God as an integral part of her upbringing, Mamie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, early in life.

As life progressed, Mamie relocated to New York, where she lived for several years. While there, she worked at Downstate Medical Center as a Operating Room Technician. She was no stranger to hard work. Even after her retirement and return to North Carolina, she continued to work in the medical field, serving with the Northampton County EMS. She loved helping others and would do anything she could to help anyone in need. She was a true missionary, as she took visiting and caring for the sick and shut-it very seriously. In her spare time, she found great pleasure in working in her yard and gardening. Mamie united in Christian Fellowship with Evangelistic Church of Deliverance, Weldon, North Carolina, where her spiritual gifts were nurtured and love for God deepened.

"The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.(Titus 2: 3-5)  Mamie’s fear of God, foresight, encouragement, care for others and love for her family, all led her to a life of enjoyment, honor and worth. She proudly served as a member of the ECOD Mother’s Board Ministry.

“After the clouds, the sunshine; after the winter, the spring; After the shower, the rainbow; for life is a changeable thing. After the night, the morning, bidding all darkness cease, After life’s cares and sorrows, the comfort and sweetness of peace.” On Friday, April 8, 2022; God in His infinite wisdom, lifted Mother Mamie Irene Boone Walden from this world of sin, sorrow and pain to a place of eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: her spouse, Willie Walden, Leroy Odom and John Harris; daughter, Vivian Denise Walden; and siblings, Bertha Stanley, John Boone, Beulah Long and Joseline Osborne.

"Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole life through, we will always love and cherish you." Her sweet spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. We who remain, struck by the bitter pain of death, but satisfied with the promise made by God, that He would wipe all tears from our eyes: two children, Willie Walden of the home and Deborah Walden of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Tomeka Walden, Cassandra Walden and Hubert Myrick; three great-grandchildren, Jay’lynn Clanton, I’jaylah Clanton and Ariya Rose Myrick; a host of other loving relatives and friends.
