THE LIFE & LEGACY OF Nannie Lee Jordan
"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
~ II Timothy 4: 6 -8
Nannie Lee Jordan, daughter of the late Lorenzo Jordan and Nannie Drew Jordan was born on Tuesday, August 4, 1925 in Northampton County, North Carolina.
Nannie was educated in the Northampton County School System; graduating from Coates High, Seaboard, North Carolina - Class of 1945. She accepted Christ, early in life, and became a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Margarettsville, North Carolina. She later relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she united in Christian fellowship with Mount Olive Baptist Church, actively serving in all capacities, until her health began to decline. Nannie loved to sing and was a faithful member of the choir.
While living in Virginia Beach, she was gainfully employed and resided there until she answered God’s call from labor unto sweet eternal rest on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.
‘Ms. Nannie’, as she was affectionately called, was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend. She was often referred to as the “Queen of the Neighborhood”. She will truly be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Yvonne and her brothers, Floyd and Richard.
Sleep on, beloved, sleep, and take thy rest; Lay down thy head upon the Saviour’s Breast; We love thee well, but Jesus loves thee best. Her sweet spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by her loving and devoted son, Henry Gatling of the home; grandson, Michael Gatling (Jalanda) of New Kent County, Virginia; granddaughter, Veronica Henry of Franklin, Tennessee; five great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; one step-grandson; daughter-at-heart, Annette Branch of Seaboard, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
