Noriko Kaselow Obituary

Noriko Kaselow, née Waki, of Arlington, VA passed peacefully, with her daughter by her side, on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in Scottsdale, AZ, following a nearly ten-year battle with cancer.  She was 81 years old.

Noriko will be lovingly remembered by: her longtime partner, Lavon Moody, of Garysburg, NC; two sons, Koji Chomei of Tokyo and Walter Kaselow of Virginia; daughter, Naomi Kaselow of Scottsdale, AZ and their extended families, grandchildren, Yuji, Yuki, Adia, Amelie and Sebastian; her beloved church family and many friends.

Noriko was born in Kagoshima, Japan, the only child of Shinichi Waki and Fumiko Horinouchi.  She carried great pride being from the same hometown of The Last Samurai, Saigo Takamori.  Noriko enjoyed sports from a young age and was an award-winning short distance track runner through high school.  In her early 40s, she joined a women’s recreational soccer team.  Ever the adventurous type, Noriko enjoyed the military life of moving to a new location every few years.  She was naturalized as an American citizen in the early 80s.  Noriko was a stay-at-home Mom and Walter and Naomi’s personal taxi until they were able to drive.  She volunteered at the Navy Relief Thrift Shop at Bellevue (Naval Research Lab) for several years.  After that, through to retirement in 2001, Noriko was a Naval Uniform Specialist at the Navy Annex in Arlington, VA.  She loved her job and the customers she encountered.  She looked forward to her annual trips to the beach.  Noriko found a healthy hobby at the Bolling Gym - starting with aerobics and then adding kickboxing, spin, and weightlifting classes as the exercise trends evolved.  One of her favorite spring pastimes was the annual visit to the Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin and Cherry Blossom Parade and Festival.  Her church home for the past 35+ years was the Bolling Gospel Chapel, a place where she made lifetime friendships and strengthened her faith in God.  Noriko had so much love for her family and friends and enjoyed visiting them all around the world.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 31st at 11AM at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Chapel (310 Angels Street SW, Bolling AFB 20032).  Attendance will be limited to 85 people, however the service will be live-streamed on the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Facebook page.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a cancer foundation of your choice in Noriko Kaselow’s memory.  Thank you.
