Oliver 'Sonny' Grant Obituary

For we who depart this world knowing our eternity is secure

through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, there is no weeping

or sorrow. Still, as we attend the funeral of a believer,

though it may be a celebration of a life well-lived,

we will mourn and miss our loved one until we are once

again reunited with them in Heaven.

Matthew 25:23, 34

Oliver Elijah ‘Sonny’ Grant began his journey on Friday, June 15th, 1945, in Northampton County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Oliver Cowans and Thelma Lee Grant Blunt.

Oliver was educated in the Northampton County Public Schools, graduating from Willis Hare High School in the Class of 1964. Growing up in a Christian household, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized, and joined the First Baptist Church of Severn.

Following high school, Oliver proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years as an Aircraft Loadmaster Technician. After completing his service, he returned to his hometown of Severn, North Carolina, where he lived until his passing.

On Sunday, September 29th, 2024, God, in His infinite wisdom, called our beloved brother, uncle, and friend, Oliver Elijah Grant, home to eternal rest. “Come ye, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you.”

In addition to his parents, Oliver was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Ann Blunt, and his stepfather, Willie Lee Blunt, Sr.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, including two brothers: Willie Blunt of Greenville, North Carolina, and Stanley Cowans of New Jersey; two sisters: Christine Kindred of New York and Roslyn Parker of Severn, North Carolina; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will deeply miss him.

Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mr. Grant's tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
