Onazty 'Oni' Vargas Obituary

“If I had a flower for every time I thought of you…

I could walk through my garden forever.”

~ Alfred Tennyson

Onazty Renee-Nicole Vargas, began her journey through life at 12:06 a.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2001 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital. She was born to the parentage of Savannah Marie Vargas and Syyid Chester.

‘Oni’, as she was affectionately called by her loving family and friends, soon grew and matured into a sweet and compassionate young lady, who met no stranger! Everyone knew ‘Oni’ by her angelic and infectious smile that could easily brighten anyone’s day. Her smile was accompanied by a warm and bubbly personality along with a great fashion sense. She was a beautiful person both internally and externally, who had an unconditional love for her family and friends. She was a sweet spirit who possessed a thankful heart - whether big or small. To know her was to love her and she was known by many throughout! ‘Oni’ also possessed a fondness for reading, anime, unique fashion, make up and people.

‘Oni’ obtained her early education from the school system of Millington, Tennessee. After relocating to North Carolina with her family, she attended the Northampton County Public School System; graduating from the Northampton County Early College of Weldon, North Carolina; Class of 2019. After graduation, ‘Oni’ entered into the workforce, where she held various jobs; but found a love for criminal justice, as she became employed with the Lawrenceville Correctional Center, Lawrenceille, Virginia.

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021; Onazty Renee-Nicole Vargas, answered the master’s call and gained her heavenly wings.

“Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart. For as long as there is memory, ‘Oni’ will live on in our hearts. A gift for such a little while, the loss just seems so wrong. She should not have left before us, It’s with loved one where she belongs.” Treasured memories of pure love and affection will remain with us forever, as we cherish the magical creation she was: her mother, Savannah Vargas of the home; her father, Syyid Chester of Georgia; her step-father, Corey Edwards of Buffalo, New York; her fiance, Stryker Oleske of Louisiana; her maternal grandparents, Jackie Webb and Eric McCallum of the home, Robert Vargas (Claudia) of Miami, Florida; her paternal grandparents, Sharon Chester and Jeffery Myers both of Newark, New Jersey; maternal great-grandparents Carolyn Webb (Russell) of Emporia, Virginia and Richard Grossklaus of Newark, New Jersey; her maternal siblings, Dazier, Harmonee, Verity and Chance-Mychal Vargas all of the home; her sister-at-heart, Asia Crowder of Roanoke, Rapids, North Carolina; paternal sister, Maya Chester of Newark, New Jersey; her aunts and uncles, De’Ja Hill of Weldon, North Carolina, Charles Dais, Jr. (Peggy) of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina, Jessica Henderson (Antwan) and Eric McCallum, Jr. (Victoria) all of Bayville, New Jersey and Raheim Chester of Newark, New Jersey; her cousins, Richard Harris and Savannah Webb both of the home, Sharon Taylor (also her god-mother) of Newark, New Jersey, Latonya Taylor of Garysburg, North Carolina; her special cousin, Lakeshia Carswell of Newark, New Jersey; her godmother, Nicole Owens of Newark, New Jersey; a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins relatives and friends.
