Paris Savon Gatling, affectionately known to many by her stage name “Paris Savon,” was born on May 10, 1990, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, to her devoted mother, Sonja Lynette Purnell Gatling, and her father, the late James Elfred Gatling. On March 9, 2026, Paris peacefully transitioned from this earthly life, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, music, and enduring memories.
Paris was raised in Roanoke Rapids, where she spent the greater part of her life enveloped in the care of family and a community that cherished her deeply. She received her foundational education within the local school system and was honored to be a member of the inaugural graduating class of KIPP Pride High School in Gaston, North Carolina. Demonstrating a commitment to personal growth and academic advancement, she later pursued higher education at North Carolina Central University in Durham.
At an early age, Paris confessed her faith in Christ and maintained a steadfast belief in her Christian walk. Her faith served as both an anchor and a compass—guiding her through life’s triumphs and trials with grace, resilience, and unwavering strength. Paris possessed an extraordinary passion for music, through which she expressed both her identity and her joy. Performing under the name Paris Savon, she pursued her calling as a Southern Soul recording artist, cultivating a sound and presence that resonated with authenticity and warmth. She held a particular fondness for trail ride music, and whether or not she knew the steps, she could always be found dancing— radiating joy, laughter, and a spirit that was undeniably infectious. Her vibrant energy created moments of connection and celebration for all who encountered her.
Above all, Paris was a devoted and loving mother. Her children were the center of her world and the greatest expression of her love. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: London Gatling (14), Brooklyn Ashe (9), Malaysia Mills (7), and Dallas Smith (3). She is preceded in death by her precious son, Memphis Mills, whose memory she carried with her always.
Paris is also preceded in death by her father, James Elfred Gatling. She leaves behind a family whose love for her is both deep and abiding: her mother, Sonja Lynette Purnell Gatling; her bonus mother, Thomasine Arrington; her siblings, Jade Gatling, Colden Waters, Ashley Branch, Tasha Boyce, Jamarl Boyce, and Eric Boyce; and her grandmother, Cynthia Purnell. She is further survived by a host of loving aunts and uncles, including Stacey Purnell (Danette), Jettie Purnell, Patricia Purnell, Brenda Alston (Douglas), Lisa Alexander, Keisha Nandalal (Bhall), Cory Deloatch (Monica), Kira Sconion, C. Yohance Deloatch, Christopher McPherson, Phyllis Powell, and Erica Powell, along with a wide circle of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to honor her life and legacy.
Paris will be remembered for the beauty of her spirit, the authenticity of her laughter, and the joy she so effortlessly brought into every space she entered. Her voice, her rhythm, and her love will endure—living on through her children, her music, and the countless lives she touched. Though her earthly song has come to a close, her melody shall echo in our hearts forever.
