Phyllis Dickerson

 “All my life YOU have been faithful. All my life YOU have been so, so good.

With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God.”

Phyllis Dickerson, the beloved daughter of the late Clinton (Bud) Dickerson and Malinda (Peggy) Motley Dickerson, was born on Saturday, December 19th, 1964, in Galatia, North Carolina. She peacefully transitioned from this life on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

Phyllis’ early years were spent attending Woodland Child Development Center and Willis Hare School. In her later years, she attended the Adapt Adult Center in Ahoskie, North Carolina, where she continued to be part of a supportive community.

Phyllis had a vibrant personality and found joy in simple pleasures. She loved listening to music, dancing, and singing along with her family. She could often be found with her favorite items—a pink pocketbook, crayons, coloring books, dolls, and sunglasses. Phyllis also had a special fondness for her “Pepsi and Big Mac.”

She was a sweet and loving daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest sister Maxine Dickerson, her nephew Jamie R. Dickerson, her brother-in-law Timothy Dickerson, Sr., and her special double-first cousin Debra Motley Dickerson Lamberts.

Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory: sisters, Patricia Dickerson of Pendleton, North Carolina; Brenda Dickerson of Pendleton, North Carolina, with whom she lived; and Theresa Carter of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Her brothers include Clinton Dickerson, Jr. of Pendleton, North Carolina, and Antonio Bynum of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She is also survived by uncles Collin Dickerson (Carolyn) of Dallas, Georgia, and Wilkins Motley, Jr. (Ella) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; aunts Naomi Foriest of Lawnside, New Jersey, and Shirley Lambert of Washington, DC; and special nieces Nikki Jacobs, Shanna, Shania, and Jada Dickerson, all of Pendleton, North Carolina. Phyllis’ memory will also be cherished by her special cousin Letia Dickerson of Raleigh, North Carolina, along with a host of relatives and friends.

Phyllis’ kind spirit and infectious joy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
