Raymond McCoy 'Mickey' Jordan, Jr.

Raymond McCoy “Mickey” Jordan, Jr., peacefully departed this life on Monday, November 10th, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on Wednesday, July 11th, 1945, in Margarettsville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Raymond McCoy Jordan, Sr., and Geraldine Faison Jordan. At an early age, Mickey was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he became an active and devoted member. He attended Northampton County Schools and grew up surrounded by strong family ties and faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Earlene Joyner and Mae Queen Knight.

Mickey moved to Virginia in his early years and married young, a union that blessed him with three sons and, decades later, several grandchildren and a great-grandson. In his later years, he found companionship and joy with his longtime partner, Francis Boyd. He is survived by Francis; his sons Raymond “Ray Ray” Jordan III (Sonja), Randall Jordan (Tanya), and Rodney Jordan; his grandchildren Jazmyn, Destiny, Kendall, Mahogany, Jalen, Kevin, and Trinity; his great-grandson Y’lan; his former wife Barbara Jordan; and former daughter-in-law Schandrena Jordan. He also leaves to cherish his memory four sisters and one brother—Lois Jean Jordan, Julia Lee Flythe, Rebie Elaine Jordan Hansom, June Carolyn Jordan, and Clarence Michael Jordan—one aunt, Mrs. Vivian Faison Blount, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He will forever be loved and missed.

Known as a hard worker with an unstoppable spirit, Mickey spent several years in his younger days employed by Flowers Bakery, where he oversaw the production of various bread products. True to his outgoing nature, he never arrived at a family event without plenty of hamburger buns and hot dog rolls in hand. As his family grew and his interest in learning expanded, he transitioned into the construction industry, applying his skills as a valve technician for companies such as ITT Henze and Earl Industries. This career took him across the United States—from Norfolk, Virginia, to Seattle, Washington; New Orleans, Louisiana; and even Alaska— working in environments that ranged from power plants to naval ships. Mickey enjoyed sharing stories about the cities he visited, the power plants where he worked, and the battleships he helped repair.

His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate a cleaning business for several years, where he held every job to the same meticulous standards he applied to his beloved cars. In his later years, he continued working in the construction field with CM Noble Corp, where he supervised younger workers who affectionately referred to him as “Old School.” They frequently sought his advice not only on work and life but also on his favorite topic—race and muscle cars.

Mickey’s outgoing personality and zest for life were impossible to miss. He was the life of every party, his entrances and exits equally unforgettable. His fashion sense was impeccable and timeless, and he remained stylish through every decade. He loved music and dancing, especially hand dancing and swing, and was often the first and last person on the dance floor at family gatherings.

A follower of Jesus Christ, Mickey regularly discussed church services, sermons, and the pastors he admired. He kept a gold New Testament Bible in his vehicle as a constant reminder of his faith. He also had a deep love for sports, especially football, basketball, and boxing, and he was a devoted fan of the Washington Redskins/Commanders. Competitive by nature, he never hesitated to challenge anyone—regardless of age or gender—to a foot race on dirt, grass, or pavement. For Mickey, the challenge wasn’t about winning; it was about inspiring others to showcase their own abilities.

Mickey’s passion for cars was undeniable. Over the years he owned memorable vehicles, including an orange Plymouth Dart and a burnt maroon Cadillac Sedan. Even at 80 years old, he proudly drove his 2004 black Ford Mustang every day. In his youth, he drag raced the Plymouth Dart at regional quarter-mile tracks, and family stories suggest a few friendly competitions may have taken place along the roads of Highway 186 in North Carolina.

Raymond “Mickey” Jordan, Jr.’s life was marked by faith, family, hard work, joy, and boundless energy. He leaves behind a legacy of love, stories, laughter, and determination that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
