Richard Day, Jr. Obituary

Richard Day, Jr., the cherished son of the late Richard Day, Sr. and Christine Suiter Day, was born on April 1st, 1955, in Southampton County, Virginia. Reared in a close-knit community, Richard received his education within the Southampton County Public School System, where he laid the foundation for a life marked by quiet strength and genuine kindness.

Early in his life, Richard united in Christian Fellowship with Galilee Baptist Church in Branchville, Virginia, establishing a deep connection to his faith that guided him throughout his years. He lived simply and sincerely, taking joy in life’s small pleasures—whether spending a peaceful day fishing, hunting or just enjoying time with those he loved most. Richard’s warm, unassuming spirit and steadfast sense of duty spoke louder than words; he was a man who showed his love through actions. Admired for his easy-going nature and unwavering willingness to lend a hand, he was also a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan, often seen proudly donning black and gold in honor of “his team.”

On Friday, November 1st, 2024, while in the comfort and tranquility of his home, Richard made his final transition from this earthly life to eternal rest.

Richard leaves behind not sadness, but a legacy of love and countless cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbie Jo Deloatch Day of the home, and his brother, Harold Rose of Richmond, Virginia. He also leaves special nephews, Melvin Rose, Edward Jordan and Alphonzo Griggs, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives, and friends who will dearly miss him. May Richard rest in eternal peace with God.

His Love Was Pure & True…

Richard’s love for others was selfless, given not for what he might receive, but always for what he could give. He had a smile for everyone and a heart as pure as gold. For those who knew and loved him, his memory will forever remain vibrant and untarnished.
