Remembering Robert...
“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose,
for all that we love deeply, becomes a part of us.”
On Saturday, July 17, 1948, Robert Long was born to the loving care of Ned and Mary Edmonds Long, in the Bronx, New York.
As a young man, Robert grew up in Jackson, North Carolina, where he was educated in the Northampton County School System. He also attended Job Corps in Breckinridge, Kentucky. Soon after, Robert became employed with Newport News Naval Shipyard. As life progressed, he relocated to New Jersey, where he worked for Moldings, LLC. In later years, Robert returned to North Carolina, and became employed with Weldon Roofinng, where he was employed until he developed Rheumatoid Arthritis, which forced him to retire in 1979.
“Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” (Maya Angelou) In 1971, Robert affirmed his love, when he united in Holy Matrimony to the former Connie Lee. This marriage was blessed to span over 49 years.
Family was near and dear to Robert. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren, especially the oldest, whom he babyset until she started kindergarten. He was very protective over her, just as she was about him. No one could say anything bad about “her Pa-Pa”.
In his spare time, Robert enjoyed watching Westerns, Law & Order and CNN, which kept him abreast of what was going on in the world. He also loved to go fishing and working in the yard.
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fought, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (II Timothy 4: 6-7) On Monday, April 26, 2021; while at Vidant North Hospital, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, our dear loved one peacefully transitioned from earthly labour to eternal rest. His seeds are well-sown; his service on earth is complete, and he now experiences the victory and triumph of eternal life.
Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of his life and to share the legacy of his love are: his wife of 49 years, Connie Lee Long of the home; two sons, Daryl Long (Denise Phillips Long) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Brandon Long of Greensboro, North Carolina; his grandchildren and apples of his eye, Brianne’ Long of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Jordahn Long of Raleigh, North Carolina, Davis Long of Greensboro, North Carolina and Tia Phillips of High Point, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Ali and Riyah; brother, Earl Long of Seaboard, North Carolina; sister, Linda Brown of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
