Robert Stephenson Obituary

On Wednesday, June 6, 1945, in Severn, (Northampton County) North Carolina, a joyful moment came to the hearts of McKinley Stephenson, Sr. and Addie Branch Stephenson, as the last baby boy was born to this loving couple. This bundle of joy was named Robert McCoy Stephenson.

Robert’s educational foundation was rooted in Meherrin School, Severn, North Carolina. Growing up and working on the farm in rural Northampton County was okay, however it was not where Robert wanted to be. He soon relocated to New Jersey with his older brothers, nephews and cousins. While there he worked for quite a few years with the City of Montclair, as a truck driver. Also while in New Jersey, Robert was united in matrimony to Mary Alice. This union was blessed with two daughters.

As life progressed, Robert relocated to Norfolk, Virginia, but his eyes were set on Como, North Carolina. Upon his return to North Carolina, he worked as a truck driver for several companies, including Rose Brothers Paving Company and Glover Construction Company, from which he retired.

Being reared in a Christian home, Robert came to know Christ early in life. He joined First Baptist Church, Severn, under the pastorate of the late Reverend Brown.

Robert loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He loved his family and enjoyed spending quality time with them. Although his health presented many challenges, Robert maintained his easy going spirit. Whenever he was asked what he was doing, he would fondly reply, “Mind your business.”

Robert placed it all in God’s hands, as he transitioned from this earthly life on Monday, March 20, 2023, while in the care of the Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation Center, Windsor, North Carolina. He let go and let God, as he hastened to joined those who proceed him in death: his loving parents; three sisters, Elizabeth, Lois and Maude; two brothers, Edward and Mckinley Jr.; special nephew, Arthur Stephenson and niece, Clementine Johnson.

Our family is a circle of strength and love, with every birth and every union, the circle will grow, every joy shared adds more love, every crisis faced together, makes the circle stronger. Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of: three children, Malissa Stephenson, Denise Stephenson and Michael McCoy Faison; one grandson, Jarred Stephenson; one sister, Hilda West; and two brothers, Theodore Stephenson (Mae Lois) and Floyd Stephenson.
