Ronnie 'Scooter-Man' Abney Obituary

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;

and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain:

for the former things are passed away.” ~Revelation 1: 4

     Ronnie Abney, was born on Tuesday, November 30, 1954 in Washington, DC. He was the fifth child born to the parentage of late Deacon Wilbert Abney, Sr. and Mother Mary Helen Abney.

     ‘Scooter Man’, as he was affectionately called by his loving family and friends, was educated in the public schools of Washington, DC. As life progressed, he relocated to Garysburg, North Carolina, where he was employed for many years, with Bennett Construction, as a Painter. Ronnie was a hard worker and he was very dedicated to his craft.

     Early in life, Ronnie joined New Jerusalem Holiness Church of Garysburg, North Carolina. In later years, he gave his life to the Lord and united in Christian Fellowship with Temple Emmanuel, located in Weldon, North Carolina. He loved the Lord with all of his heart. Nothing brought him more pleasure than attending church and praising God. He also enjoyed watching Westerns and movies about the Lord.

     On Monday, April 24, 2023, while in the care of ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville, North Carolina, Ronnie went home to be with the Lord. In addition to his beloved parents, Ronnie was predeceased by: one sister, Patricia Abney and three brothers, Wilbert Abney, Jr, Bobby W. Abney and Anthony Abney, Sr.

     Though his light may eternally descend, God has promised to be our guide until the very end. Though the pain may be almost too much to bear, God is love and He will walk with us in our deepest despair. We, who are bound by treasured ties of affection and love to embrace the memories of time passed are: two sisters, Debbie Abney of the home and Helen D. Strong (Riley) of Oxon Hill, Maryland; one brother, Vincent Abney (Linda) of Washington, DC; his companion, Barbara Spruill of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; special nieces and nephew, Tyisha Johnson (Bryan) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Destiny Abney and Tyreek Abney of the home; his godson, Michael Hawkins of the home; a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
