Remembering 'Raba'...
"Don't think of him as gone away his journey's just begun,
life holds so many facets this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness can really pass away.
And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched,
for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much."
Roy R. Tyler, was born in Woodville (Bertie County), North Carolina on November 7, 1948 to the late Barnabus Tyler and Annie Janet Ruffin-Moore. He was the second child of twenty children.
Roy was educated in Bertie County Public Schools. After he finished High School, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served from 1968-1970, when he was honorably discharged. When Roy returned home from the army, his health began to decline. He tried to work many jobs, but due to his illness wasn't able to keep one.
At an early age, Roy came to know the Lord. He loved listening to music, dancing, singing and laughing out loudly for hours. Some of his favorite singers were; James Brown, Michael Jackson, Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, just to name a few.
Roy would even shave his head bald and wear many necklaces and call himself Mr. T. Another favorite thing he liked was good old soul food meals, with pan fried corn bread. He also loved to play cards with family and friends.
"Oh, when I come to the end of my journey, weary of life and the battle is won. Carrying the staff and the cross of redemption, He'll understand and say "Well done." Roy got his wings in the early morning of Thursday, November 19, 2020, when an Angel of the lord descended to carry peacefully home the soul of our beloved brother, Roy R. Tyler, who was affectionately called, 'Raba'.
"Though the clouds may hang over, there will be a brighter day. In that land that they call heaven God shall wipe all tears away." Roy leaves to cherish his memory: nine siblings, Carrie Crowe of Williamston, North Carolina, Georgia Leary of Hartford, Connecticut, Rev. Dr. Marjorie Edwards of Conway, North Carolina, Annie E. Bishop of Murfreesboro, North Carolina, James (Belinda) Moore of Raleigh, North Carolina, Terry (Albert) Bush of Woodland, North Carolina, Lorenza (Debra) Moore of Suffolk, Virginia, Juanita (George) Mosley of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Isabella (Willie) Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Our hearts are saddened with sorrow, and we truly miss him and his laughter, but we know God, in His perfect timing came for him. We will always remember the good times and the memories of him will be etched in our hearts. We know that weeping may endure for a night, but joy will come in the morning, and we will never forget you 'Raba'. We love you Bro!
