Ruth Harris Hankins, daughter of the late Maude Grant Harris and Arthur Rasco, was born on Sunday, November 25, 1945 in Jackson, North Carolina.
Ruth loved life. She was a free spirit. She lived her life on her terms with no rules, boundaries or judgements. Prior to her health failing, Ruth’s number one hobby involved nature. She loved being outside working in her beautiful flower gardens. Her second hobby was cooking “soul food”. Holidays have not been the same without her pies, cakes, turkey, greens, beef stew and potatoes. Her meals were so delicious, she could have been an inspiring cook and or restaurant owner. In addition, she loved people, music, and social gathering. Music was stimulating to her. It gave her a sense of belonging and allowed her to bond with people with similar interests and inspirations.
Ruth was tough! She was strong! Her tenacious attitude shocked the doctors to the very end.
On Sunday, June 5, 2022, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, succumbed to her illnesses and transitioned into eternal life. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Hankins; grandson, Rafael Harper, and sister, Janie Edwards.
Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of: her daughter, Ellen Harper, granddaughter, Rachel Chantey Harper; great-grandchildren, Jayden Christopher and Zamory Duron Harper (Rafael Harper); special nieces, Wandria Harris, Dr. Shanette Harris and Sandra Harris-McClain; special nephew, Charles Harris; a host of special great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
