Sammy Deloatch Obituary

Sammy Davis Deloatch, affectionately known as Sam, was born on Wednesday, October 24th, 1962, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to Gloria Gatling Deloatch and the late Raleigh Deloatch. He was a beloved son, brother, father, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor, and steadfast presence.

Sam accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Allen Chapel AME Church in Jackson, North Carolina. Throughout his life, his faith and family were the foundation of all he held dear.

He received his education in the public schools of Northampton County before continuing his studies at Halifax Community College in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He dedicated 25 years of service to the Greensville Correctional Facility in Jarratt, Virginia, where he retired with pride and distinction.

Outside of his professional achievements, Sam had a wide array of interests that brought him joy. He found peace in cutting grass, detailing cars, and cruising the open road on his motorcycle. He also devoted time to restoring his beloved Ford Mustang, a project that symbolized his passion and attention to detail.

On Thursday, March 27th, 2025, Sam transitioned from this earthly life at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina. While we feel the sorrow of his loss, we find comfort in the memories of his love, his laughter, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. His legacy will forever live on in our hearts, and we take solace in God’s promise to wipe away all tears.

Sam was preceded in death by his father, Raleigh Deloatch; his paternal grandparents, Samuel and Ellen Deloatch; his maternal grandparents, Nellie and David Gatling; and his dear aunt, Ella Harris. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted mother, Mrs. Gloria G. Deloatch of Conway, North Carolina; his son, Andante Deloatch of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his mother, Jeanette Deloatch; his daughters, Jessica Woodson and Jymia Deloatch, both of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and their mother, Sharon Deloatch; his sisters, Joyce Cotton of Jackson, North Carolina, and Jackie Freeman of Kissimmee, Florida; his brothers, Larry Deloatch and Charles Deloatch (Feebie) all of Conway, North Carolina; two cherished grandchildren, Diante Hockaday and Journee Richardson; a loving aunt, Martha Pittman; his special friend, Kisha Lassiter; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will continue to hold his memory close.

As we bid farewell to Sam, we find peace in knowing that he is now resting in the arms of the Lord, free from pain and worry. He will forever be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
