Shardia Jones Obituary

We know “there is a time for everything, a season for every activity under the heaven. A time to be born and a time to die”. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

We also know “that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose”. Romans 8:28

Shardia, our flesh says your season was not long enough because your son and your family love and miss you. We your family are numb but we are comforted because our faith tells us you are in the arms of Our Lord, predestined for this time… and that is good.

It was a glorious day April 25,1988 when Shardia Natasha Marie Jones was born to the union of Millicent Kay Porter and Keith Jones in St. Charles Hospital Port Jefferson, NY, the sole girl and second child of 3 children. Life, dictated at a few days of age, Shardia was entrusted to the care of her paternal grandparents Virginia Boone Jones and Willie R Jones, Sr. Together they legally adopted her, loved, guided and nurtured Shardia in their home until Grandma’s transition in May 2009. Shardia held that special status of an adopted grandchild. It was unique to Shardia and for her good. There were not any questions or discussion because Virginia Jones loved everybody, all were welcomed in her Godly home and she taught Shardia to know the Lord and always walk in her truth.

Shardia’s season in this lifetime was not long but it was full and complete. Shardia developed into an artist and a teacher by elementary school. As a youngster, Shardia began teaching her younger cousins what she had learned by mirroring her grandmother in the home beauty salon at 3 Phineas Street, Medford, NY. Shardia taught the art of braiding and the intricate finger work to the corn roll. If you had a mind to learn Shardia taught anyone to apply relaxers, give a good wash, roll a wet set and as a teenager to do nails and makeup. Shardia taught her immediate cousins the rhythm of jumping Double Dutch while the ropes were moving. This was a feat not easily done. There are so many memories of Shardia and her season in this lifetime. Her laughter was unique to only her and her beautiful full teeth smile completed the moment. Shardia had a worldview on everything from politics to faith, her plans for her future a er life at 3 Phineas in Medford, NY, Charles E. Walters Elementary School in Yaphank, NY and Christ Baptist Church in Coram, NY where she was baptized in 1998 and where her grandfather was the organizing pastor and grandmother was First Lady, Sunday School Superintendent and an Usher. Sunday School, youth choir, junior ushers and church outings, Shardia and her brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins participated in all.

Relocating with the family to their second home in Weldon, North Carolina, Shardia continued to prosper. In 2006, she graduated from Weldon High School. She also graduated from Halifax Community College and attended North Carolina A & T College. She was quite proud of her academic achievement. Shardia always had a job, as this was a family tradition. Shardia and her grandmother attended Faithful Band Missionary Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, North Carolina where Shardia was a youth choir member.

From the moment Shardia knew she was expecting, she was focused on being a loving and ever present mother to Matthew Alexander Liverman, born to her and Vance Liverman on October 24, 2018. Shardia was an amazing mom! This was her greatest teaching role. She was most content being a mom. Motherhood was her comfort zone and she said it was her destiny. Shardia was employed as a Pharmaceutical Technician to support her small family. Shardia was self-su cient, happy and optimistic for her future with her son.

Shardia’s grandparents, Virginia Boone Jones and Willie R. Jones Sr., mother, Millicent Kay Porter and uncle, Michael Randall predeceased her.

Cherishing her memory are: her precious son, Matthew; his father, Vance and her aunt, Sherita G. Jones, with whom she held a very special lifelong bond. Shardia’s other survivors include: her father, Keith Jones; brothers, Keith, Kadeem and Taylor; her grandmother’s only sister, great-aunt, Dorothy Boone Kidd; 13 aunts and uncles; numerous cousins and a vast extended family and friends network.

Rest on in Glory Sweet Mom, Sister, Niece, Cousin and Friend.

“And those God predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justifed; those He justifed, He also glorifed.” ~ Romans 8:3
