Memories are treasures no one can steal. Death is the heartache nothing can heal.
Some may forget you now that you are gone, But we shall remember you no matter how long.
Sheila Diane Vassor Cumbo, born on Wednesday, June 6, 1962, in Queens, New York, to the late Nathaniel Floyd and Carolyn Vick Vassor Brinkley, peacefully transitioned to eternal life on Saturday, November 19, 2023, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers at her home.
Following her birth, Sheila and her family relocated to North Carolina, where she spent the entirety of her adulthood. Sheila received her education in the Northampton County Public School System and graduated from Gaston High School in 1980. Continuing her academic pursuits, she attended college, solidifying herself as a dedicated and hardworking individual from an early age. Throughout her life, Sheila held various jobs, often working long hours to provide for her family. Notably, she was employed with Guardian Care (Signature Health Care Center) in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and, in recent years, with Georgia Pacific in Emporia, Virginia.
Affectionately known as ‘Boochie’ by her close family, Sheila was known for her generosity and love. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and was a steadfast supporter of her family, friends and community. Her deep love for children was evident long before she became a mother herself. In 1999, Sheila was blessed with a daughter, Jamesha Vincent, whom she devoted much of her life to, showering her with love, care and nurture.
Sheila is survived by her husband, Karl Cumbo of Conway, North Carolina; her daughter, Jamesha Vincent; godchildren, Kelvin Graham and Madison Allen, all of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; her brother, Leonard Vassor (Linda) of Reddick, Florida; sister-in-law, Tina Vassor of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; aunt and uncle, Anita and James Jr.; nieces and nephews, Kevin, Natasha, Lakeisha, Rashida, Leonard Jr., and Dasha; great-nieces and nephews, Latiana, Armani, Elijah, and Kingsley; along with her dear friend and caregivers, Angela Ransome and Renee Arrington. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends, each holding cherished memories of her love, care, and generosity.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mrs. Cumbo's tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
