Stephone Harris Obituary

“I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is

going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.”

– Acts 24:15

We come together today to honor and celebrate the life, love, and enduring legacy of Stephone A. Harris, a cherished son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend.

Stephone was born on July 11th, 1968, in Southampton County, Virginia, to Viola Harris Branch and the late David Rooks. After a life well-lived, he passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24th, 2025, at ECU Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, North Carolina.

A proud 1986 graduate of Southampton High School, Stephone went on to enlist in the United States Army, where he served honorably. Upon retiring from the Army, Stephone continued to build a diverse career, working for organizations such as Southampton Correctional in Capron, Virginia, Union Camp in Seaboard, North Carolina, Kelly Springfield Tires in Atlanta, Georgia, and Tindall Concrete in Jonesboro, Georgia.

Stephone was preceded in death by his father, David Rooks. He is deeply loved and will be missed by his mother, Viola H. Branch of Woodland, North Carolina; his sisters, Pamela Clark (Darol) of Capron, Virginia, and Dineta Rooks of Suffolk, Virginia; his nieces, Hope Clark of Maryland and Shirlitta Clark of Capron, Virginia; and his nephew, Shawn Williams of Suffolk, Virginia.

Stephone is also survived by his aunt, Mary Montgomery of Washington, DC; his uncle, James Harris of Branchville, Virginia; two other uncles; three aunts; and a special cousin, Patricia Stancell of Conway, North Carolina. He will also be remembered fondly by his special friends Elois Person of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Lenora Person of Petersburg, Virginia, and Malcolm Gay of Burlington, North Carolina, along with a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

Though Stephone is no longer with us, his impact on those who knew him will continue to live on. He will always be remembered for his strength, kindness, and the love he gave to those around him. May his memory be a blessing to all who were fortunate to share in his life.
