“To everything there is a season, and to every purpose under the
Heaven: A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant, and
a time to pluck up that which is planted.” - Ecclesiastes 3:1-3
THEO “BO” SALANDER DELOATCH JR., 67, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 8th, 2026, at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theo and Virginia Deloatch; his grandmother, Arlene Simmons; his brothers, Reginald Hardy and Ronnie Deloatch; and his greatgrandson, Jamari Robinson. Those who knew Bo like to imagine that in heaven he has reunited with them perhaps working on a project for someone, sharing jokes, or enjoying a friendly game of checkers or cards with his brother Reggie.
Bo grew up in Northampton County, North Carolina, and graduated from Gumberry High School in 1978. During his high school years, he met the love of his life, Mary Robinson. After graduation, he worked in construction for several years. In 1985, Bo and Mary stood before God and their family and committed their lives to one another, beginning a marriage that lasted 41 years. In 1989, Bo found his calling in the trucking industry. Though he did not ride horses, he was known as a true cowboy of the highway, saddling up his 18-wheeler and traveling the roads for hours at a time. He spent 37 years working as a truck driver and was most recently employed by SCM Trucking, where he held the distinction of #1 Fuel Savings. Known in the trucking world by the nickname “Midnight,” Bo traveled countless highways, always keeping an eye out for Waffle Houses in as many states as he could find, all while enjoying the cup of coffee he always had to have often reheated several times. When he was not on the road, he spent his time around town helping others with home renovations, yard work, and various odd jobs that needed to be done.
Throughout his life, Theo carried many titles: husband, father, brother, son, friend, mentor, and truck driver. Perhaps his most fitting title, however, was that of a hardworking and constantly busy man. His passing was sudden and unexpected. While his family mourns the loss of a beloved husband and father, many others grieve the loss of a loyal friend. Bo was a rock to many a helping hand, a listening ear, and a man known for his sharp and often sarcastic sense of humor.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 41 years, Maxine Deloatch; his two sons, Kirk (Brandi) Deloatch and Jermaine Robinson; and his grandchildren, Saniyah Deloatch, Serenity Deloatch, Jquan Robinson, and Chavonna Robinson. He is also survived by his siblings: Lois Janet Deloatch of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina; Fannie (Stoney) Grant of Halifax, North Carolina; Arthur Mack (Cassandra) Deloatch of Richmond, Virginia; Herbert (Tammy) Deloatch of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; Gilbert (Leah) Deloatch of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina; and Alvester (Evelyn) Deloatch of Garysburg, North Carolina. He is further survived by two brothers-in-law, John Robinson and Wayne (Kat) Robinson, and five sisters-in-law: Brenda (Calvin) Judkins, Golda (Dee) Powell, Tina Jones, Patricia Manning, and Denise Robinson. He also leaves a special father-like figure, Jessie Brown; special and dear friends who became family, Rodney (Melissa) Newbill, Dennis “PeeWee” Phillips, Ricky Majette, and Katherine; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, coworkers, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Theo “Bo,” also known as “Midnight,” Deloatch will be forever missed, forever remembered, and always held close in the hearts of those who loved him.
