“All my life YOU have been faithful. All my life YOU have been so, so good.
With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God.”
Today, we gather to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Theresa Ann Brown, a woman whose warmth, joy, and love enriched the lives of all who knew her. Born on August 13th, 1950, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late William Smith and Estelle Hicks Smith, Theresa was called to her heavenly home on Monday, December 16th, 2024.
Theresa was a beacon of strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Her life journey was marked by her commitment to family, faith, and service. She began her educational path at W.S. Creecy School in Rich Square, North Carolina, where she laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and achievement.
Her professional career was diverse and impactful, reflecting her drive and passion for helping others. She worked at Mutual of New York, served as a correctional officer in Jarratt, Virginia, and devoted thirteen years as a nurse at the University of North Carolina Healthcare System in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, retiring in August 2015.
Theresa’s life was deeply rooted in her faith and her generous spirit. She found immense joy in traveling, shopping, and most importantly, in serving the Lord and her community. Her infectious smile and kind heart brought comfort and happiness to everyone around her. She was a guiding light to her family and friends, inspiring them with her strength and compassion.
Theresa’s legacy lives on through her loving sons, Shawn Brown of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Kevin Brown (Sharvon) of Raleigh, North Carolina; her cherished grandchildren, Amber Bowser (Dennis) and Nywan Brown; and her adored great-grandchildren, Carmen Boyce and Camoni Boyce. She also leaves behind a bonus grandson, Cornelius Johnson.
Theresa’s memory is treasured by her three sisters: Jeanette Smith (Wardell) of New York, Stella Demary of Murfreesboro, North Carolina, and Mary Smith (Robert) of South Carolina. She is remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She is reunited in eternity with those who preceded her in death, including her parents; two sisters, Marion Field and Carrie Parker; two brothers, Charles Smith and Kelvin Smith; and one great-grandson, Cameron Boyce.
As we celebrate Theresa’s life, we are reminded of the enduring power of love, kindness, and faith. Her memory will forever be a source of strength and inspiration, a shining example of a life well-lived.
