Thomas Northington Jr. was born on November 23, 1947, to Alice Rowena Smith-Northington and Thomas Ulrich Northington Sr. in Halifax, North Carolina. Thomas received his education at Ralph J. Bunche High School in Weldon, North Carolina, graduating in 1966.
Thomas enlisted in the Unites States Marine Corps on April 1, 1967, and served his country in the Vietnam War. During his tour of duty, he received the Purple Heart with One Star, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal. On April 29, 1970, Thomas honorably completed his military service.
After returning home, Thomas dedicated his life to the Lord and was baptized at First Missionary Baptist Church in Halifax, North Carolina.
Thomas was a conscientious and industrious worker who took pride in his attendance and punctuality during his career at General Mills. He retired after 40 years to enjoy his home and family in Halifax, North Carolina. He was also an avid sports fan who loved celebrating the recent successes of the Buffalo Bills.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 30 years, Regina Northington; his two children, Thomas “Scottie” Northington and Alicia N. Woods (Timothy); his siblings: Mary Northington Conyers of Raleigh, North Carolina, Elaine Northington Benjamin of Halifax, North Carolina, and Richard Northington (Selena) of Durham, North Carolina; and his brother-in-law, Bruce Simmons (Doris) of Halifax, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sr. and Alice Northington; his son, Ulrich Northington; and his sister, Doris Northington Simmons.
Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Dakota Northington, Danica Northington, Monia Weathersby, Solei Watson, and Tamiyah Woods; great-grandchildren: Laila Simmons, Alaya Simmons, and Cameron Simmons; father & mother-in-law: Aguster and Glendell Williams; brothers-in-law: Dorian Johnson, Ricky Ricks, and Curtis Ricks; sisters-in-law: Mary Kelley, Shereta Brewer (Otto), Aqila Malpass (Mike), and Maricka Ricks; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mr. Northington's tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
