Trustee George Buffaloe Obituary

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,

will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

— Philippians 4:7 (NKJV)

Trustee George Buffaloe, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the age of 86.

George was born on Tuesday, March 28th, 1939, in Seaboard, North Carolina, to the late George and Pearlie Sykes. He was educated in the Northampton County Public School System. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united in Christian fellowship with Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Seaboard, North Carolina. There, he faithfully served as a devoted member and trustee for many years, remaining committed to the church until his health began to decline.

On January 5th, 1963, George was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, the late Rocky Lee Hendricks. Their loving union was blessed with five children, and together they built a home grounded in faith, love, and devotion to family.

George was known by all who encountered him for his loving kindness and gentle spirit. His passions included attending church, performing custodial duties, fishing, and lending a helping hand within his community. He found great joy in being of service to others and in building meaningful connections with the people he met.

Throughout his life, George was a dedicated and hardworking man. He was employed by I. B. White Company of Seaboard, North Carolina, and later by Union Camp of Seaboard, North Carolina. He eventually continued his career with the Northampton County Public School System, working in maintenance services and later serving as a custodian at Gaston Middle School until his retirement. George truly enjoyed working and meeting new people, and he took great pride in the work he did.

George was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Rocky Lee Buffaloe; his parents, George and Pearlie Sykes; his sister, Barbara Richardson; his brother, Sylvester Sykes; one granddaughter, Sierra Bottoms; and one grandson-at-heart, Thomas Peoples.

Cherished memories of George will forever remain in the hearts of his loving family. He leaves to mourn three sons: George Buffaloe, Jr. of Hampton, Virginia; Curtis Buffaloe of Statesboro, Georgia; and Brandon Buffaloe of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He also leaves two daughters: Sylvia Anderson Joseph (Arthur) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and Veronica Wilder (Sean) of Washington, North Carolina.

He also leaves a daughter-at-heart whom he lovingly reared, Sarah Peoples (Tim) of Seaboard, North Carolina; a special daughter-in-law, Anita Garner Buffaloe; and a special granddaughter-in-law, Crystal Jo Anderson. George was blessed with twelve grandchildren: Byron Bottoms; Alonzo Anderson (Tina Renea); Stewart Anderson, Jr.; Malia Wilder; Mya Wilder-Moore (Marcus); Ja’Quan Buffaloe; Za’Maury Buffaloe; Alijah Buffaloe; Victoria Garner; Brandy Epps; Timothy Peoples, Jr. (Eugenia); and Kelvin Peoples. He also leaves six great-grandchildren: Anthony Anderson, Hunter Anderson, A’Miracle Garner, Tegan Parker, Ashton Buffaloe, and Tylynn Carter.

He is also survived by his loving sisters: Beatrice Jordan, Evelyn Kee, Mable Turner, Thelma Wardrick, and Belinda Bradley; and his brothers, James Sykes and Sam Sykes. He leaves one special sister-in-law, Bobbie Goodrum of Asheville, North Carolina; one special brother-in-law, Willie Hendricks of Charleston, South Carolina; a special cousin, Wilbert “Boot” Mason of Jackson, North Carolina and a special friend, Maxine Branch of Jackson, North Carolina. In addition, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Though George has departed from this earthly life, the love he shared with his family and community will never be forgotten. His family is grateful for the time they were blessed to spend with him and for the resilience, wisdom, and values he instilled in his children, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of faith, kindness, and service will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
