Veninna Artis Obituary

Veninna Elizabeth Artis was born on Friday, May 16, 1969 in Northampton County, North Carolina, to Vera Wyche Artis and the late Leander Artis.

Veninna was educated in the Northampton County Public School System; graduating from Northampton County High School - EAST, Class of 1987. Early in life, she united in Christian fellowship with First Baptist Church of Severn and remained a member, until her demise.

Veninna grew and developed into a sweet and compassionate young lady, who met no stranger! Everyone knew Veninna by her angelic and infectious smile that could easily brighten anyone’s day. Her smile was accompanied by a warm and bubbly personality along with a great fashion sense. She was a beautiful person both internally and externally, who had an unconditional love for her family and friends. Veninna absolutely adored her grandchildren. She was a sweet spirit who possessed a thankful heart for the things God gave her whether big or small. To know her was to love her and she was known by many throughout! For a number of years, Veninna was employed with the Virginia Department of Corrections; retiring in 2017 from Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia.

"God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed her loving eyes and whispered, “Peace be Thine”. Her weary hours, her days of pain, her weary nights are past. Her ever-patient worn out frame, has found sweet rest at last."  On Thursday, November 19, 2020; God dispatched his angels to carry our loved one to her eternal home. A triumph entry for an untimely death, Veninna answered her Master’s call; while in the comfort of her home. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by: her brother, Daniel Harris; aunts, Linda Wyche, Blanch Artis Evans and Frances Artis; uncles, Clyde Artis and Lorenza Artis and close family friend, George Grant.

“Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart. For as long as there is memory, Veninna will live on in our hearts. A gift for such a little while, the loss just seems so wrong. She should not have left before us, It’s with loved one where she belongs.” Treasured memories of pure love and affection will remain with us forever, as we pass her to God’s keeping: her mother, Vera Artis of the home; two sons, Travis Branch of Pendleton, North Carolina and James Williams, III ( Jennifer) of Jackson, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Ta’Veiar Deloatch of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Jakiya Branch of Ahoskie, North Carolina, Brindley Latham of Conway, North Carolina, Armoni Branch and Londyn Branch both of Richmond, Virginia; four sisters, Joyce Artis of Raleigh, North Carolina, Joann Artis-Garris (James) of Portsmouth, Virginia, Deborah Darden (Strawn) of Branchville, Virginia and Anna Robinson of Boykins, Virginia; brother-at-heart, Kevin Stephenson (Chonda) of Emporia, Virginia; special aunt, Elizabeth Bynum; a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
