Wilbur 'Butch' Cromwell Obituary

Only God in his loving mercy knows the reason why. Softly the stars will be

glooming upon a precious grave. Where we sleep without dreaming, one we

love, but could not save. The flowers we lay upon your grave may wither and

decay. But the love we have for you will never fade away.

Wilbur “Butch” Cromwell, born Tuesday, August 20th, 1946 in Brooklyn New York, peacefully transitioned in eternal slumber on Tuesday, March 31st, 2026, while in the serenity of his home. He was lovingly reared by his mother, Irene Cromwell, and the late William Cromwell, and was also the biological son of Wilbur Sharpe. The love, guidance, and values instilled in him from an early age were evident throughout his life.

Butch was the beloved husband of Brenda Cromwell, and a devoted father to Cadrina Ralph (Jason), Shadana Cromwell, Terrence Bailey (Denise), Felicia Crest, and William Crest Sr. He was a proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom brought him immense joy.

He is also survived by his siblings, Dexter Sharpe, Derwin Sharpe, Connie George (Frank), Cathy Sharpe, and Margarita Warren, and was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin Sharpe. Butch shared a lifelong friendship with his best friend, Denvip Davis Sr., and leaves behind a host of extended family and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

Butch dedicated 42 years of service to Planters Peanuts, where his strong work ethic and consistency reflected the kind of man he was. In his younger years, he enjoyed life as a DJ, sharing his love of music and bringing joy to those around him, and music remained a constant source of happiness throughout his life.

Butch found comfort and pride in life’s simple pleasures, including caring for his yard, maintaining family cars, and spending time with his extensive collection of movies on DVD and classic VHS tapes. He also enjoyed browsing thrift stores, always searching for a good find. Though naturally quiet, when he spoke, he often left a lasting impression with his humor and insight. He was a gentle, kind-hearted man whose presence brought comfort to those around him.

A faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Suffolk, Virginia, Butch will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his calm spirit, his love of music, his devotion to family, and the quiet yet meaningful ways he showed he cared.
