Today, we pause to honor and celebrate the life of William Arthur Boone, Jr.—a beloved brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend. With a heart full of warmth, a spirit rich in humor, and a presence that brought joy wherever he went, William left an unforgettable mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born on Saturday, October 10th, 1964, at Roanoke Rapids Hospital, William was a precious gift entrusted to the loving care of his parents, the late William Arthur “Pair” Boone, Sr. and Annie Cleste Collins Boone. Reared in a home grounded in faith—where the goodness of the Lord was not only taught but lived—William accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Margarettsville, North Carolina.
William received his education through the Northampton County School System. After graduating, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he began his professional journey working at the airport. Known for his strong work ethic, he eventually returned to his North Carolina roots and found employment with Narricot Industries in Boykins, Virginia. In more recent years, he relocated to Emporia, Virginia, where he developed and shared his passion for landscaping through his work at Greensville Memorial Cemetery and throughout the surrounding community.
As he sought to grow in his faith and be more like Christ, William united in Christian fellowship with Resurrection Church in Emporia under the leadership of Reverend Harry Zeiders, a pastor known for both ministry and mentorship.
William found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time outdoors, immersed in nature, and never turned down a good home-cooked meal. He delighted in sharing jokes and laughter with family and friends and could often be found cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.
On Monday, May 12th, 2025, in the serenity of his home, William answered the Master’s call and transitioned peacefully into eternal rest. In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Boone and Willie K. Boone, Sr.
He leaves behind a host of loved ones to cherish his memory: his devoted brother, Shelton L. Boone, Sr. (Audrey) of Seaboard, North Carolina; aunts and uncles, James Boone (Joyce) of Garysburg, North Carolina, Verna Brown of Gaston, North Carolina, Stella Peterson of Raleigh, North Carolina, Janice Boone of Boykins, Virginia, Ethel Collins of Manhattan, New York, Irene Singleton (Joe) of Trenton, New Jersey, and Mary Collins of Queens, New York; his sister-in-law, Maya Boone; nieces and nephews, Ashley Boone, Willie K. Boone, Jr., Ja’Quan L. Boone, Shelton L. Boone, Jr., Asia Boone, Sha’kira Boone, and Chris Martin; along with a loving circle of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that William now rests in eternal peace, reunited with loved ones who went before him. His life was a quiet testament to faith, resilience, love for family, and the beautiful simplicity of a kind and generous soul.
